I think you harbor a love for Kerry, deep down.
At least you admit they're both good.

15. Edwards isn't a free trade democrat
He isn't for protection, but on the scale of most free to most fair he definetly comes way further down on the fair side. Edwards has voted against a half a dozen big trade agreements that Kerry supported, and he has always been against the big enchilada, NAFTA.

16. He voted for MFN status for China
He also seems to believe these FTA's can be 'amended' to the detriment of mutlinational corporations' bottom lines.

Both indicate he is not trustworthy on this issue.

I don't trust either of them to do anything but feather their own political nests. Trust is no longer a factor in this election.

6. I think both can be trusted to maintain the current policies

That's why they're the front runners - most voters don't have a problem with bush's policies, but distaste for bush himself is rising.

Both Kerry and Edwards are much better speakers, and much more telegenic. Kerry especially has a gift for putting some of the most appalling aspects of US policies into much more nicer-sounding words.

However, Kerry is in danger of being out-terroristed by Edwards, even if only slightly.

Edwards has a Neighborhood TIPS program to empower Americans to report suspect people and activities to the authorities.

Kerry doesn't.

While both support the crusade, both also need to stress how they would aggressively prosecute the war on terror here at home and root out suspected sleeper cells.

9. Yes but his is neighborhood-based

instead of relying on TV repairmen and mail carriers, it empowers neighbors to police each other for suspected potential terror.

Go Howard Dean! Keep the faith all of those who want a change for this country, not just a change in the person! Yes, any Democrat is much better than *, but we have a chance to really change things.....vote your choice, not the polls!

Dean has not withdrawn!

12. Kerry's Smile
This is a minor, but telling, thought. Anybody that can turn their smile on and off like Kerry worries me. I like him okay, but hate the way he can go from "all teeth" to not normal - but downright SOUR in a millisecond. He just doesn't exude trust, to me anyway.

14. Yes, and it's more unnatural because of the mechanics of his face
It's hard to explain, but it's another one of those things that will just put people off about him.

Most people who listen to Edwards or meet Edwards, even if they come in with the anti-lawyer bias, come away believing that he's genuine, and that when you combine that with his life story, they know that he's at his core a good person who got into politics for good reasons, and as Elizabeth Edwards said at his announcement speech, the president should be a person like John Edwards

28. His lifestory and struggles are exaggerated--i.e., son of a mill "manager"
Edwards is a smooth talker whose persuasive stump speech is apparently appealing to some.

Perhaps, he would make a good running mate with these skills, but he lacks the foreign policy and leadership credentials needed in today's world. It will be a challenge to undo Bush's legacy of failure at home and abroad.

46. Die-hard Bush supporters have told me they trust Edwards
more than Kerry. They won't be voting Democrat in the general but they are less likely to hate Edwards if he is their President. This will make governeing easier for Edwards I believe.

13. Trust is EARNED s-l-o-w-l-y over time....
I know that we seem to live in "speed-world" right now, but that's not gonna get me to say that I trust someone who hasn't earned it. I believe it's foolish to do so. Hence, I didn't vote. I'll keep watching the candidates though.

40. Kerry, because I remember VVAW; like Edwards, too.
I always respected Kerry because he had the guts to come back from Vietnam and lead opposition to that war. That wasn't as easy as some of you who are younger might think. (Flame away, but you are wasting your time). I like Edwards very much, but just don't have that 30+ years of familiarity with him. I pray for a Kerry-Edwards ticket.
