Poll question: For Kucinich supporters only (re: Kucinich endorsement of Obama)
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 06:23 PM by antiimperialist
It is no secret that Dennis Kucinich supporters here in DU overwhelmingly prefer John Edwards as their second choice; however, things may have changed dramatically now that Kucinich has encouraged his followers to vote for Obama in the event that he, Kucinich, does not gather the necessary 15% of the votes in Iowa.
If Kucinich does not get 15%, how will his recommendation affect you?

2. It's also inevitable that some will pretend to be Kucinich supporters
in order to influence the poll.

21. Yep
I figured that. But I really think most of them will make their own choice, I would. If Edwards did not make it and pushed a candidate I did not like, there is no way I would vote for them. I would pick the one that "I" think would be the best to win the nomination, and the general.

18. I am only voting Kucinich in the primaries
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 06:45 PM by cyclezealot
after that , it's someone else's choice. I am not enthusiatic about any of them. Maybe Dennis choose O'Bama because he claims he opposed Iraq from its beginning; unlike Edwards. ?

8. All voters from all states
I assume Kucinich wants all of his followers to choose Obama, unless he's weird enough to believe Obama is best for Iowa but not for other states.

10. Kucinich wants his supporters to vote for *him* in other states.
In Iowa, caucus-goers can caucus for their second choice should their first choice not get enough support at the caucus to be viable.

12. Yeah but why wouldn't he want voters to choose Obama as 2nd choice in other states?
As creator of the poll, I command you to vote even if you are not in Iowa.

11. It's only for the Iowa caucuses
He did the same deal with Edwards in 2004, and other candidates have done it in the past-- especially those who don't have especially strong campaigns in the state in question and want to use their support as leverage.

14. No. ONLY Iowa.
This is a caucus strategy only. For the second round of voting only where he does not garner 15% from what I understand.

For Iowa only.

Has nothing to do with other states.

A caucus is DIFFERENT than a primary election. He wants his supporters to vote for him in the other states primaires

23. Bad move, Dennis.
Edwards has moved much farther in your direction than Obama has. I think you are letting that chat about forcing candidates out of the debate cloud your judgment here.

24. I have a bit of a problem with the choices...
Because they make it appear as though Obama has instantly taken votes away from Edwards. I, for example, as a former Kucinich supporter, am supporting Edwards. Yes, Kucinich's encouragement to follow Obama makes me plan to take another look at Obama - but it does not make me blindly decide to move Obama up above Biden in my rankings and CERTAINLY doesn't make me blindly move him ahead of Edwards. I didn't see an option for "Has instantly moved my support from Edwards to Obama", but if that option were in there I'm sure the only ones who would be choosing it would be Obama supporters who were pretending to be Kucinich / Edwards supporters. This poll is deeply flawed.

I would post a competing one, but I make it a point not to post a poll directed at a certain group and asking them to answer it, because there is no guarantee that only members of that particular group would answer it.

Here, how about this. If you're a Kucinich supporter and his support of Obama will likely move your second choice from Edwards to Obama, please respond right now within this thread saying so.

.........

I have ten fingers, but I don't think I'll be needing them all.

25. I am not in Iowa, but Dennis will get my first ballot vote in the Washington caucus.
Dennis was well over the minimum number for viability here in 2004, and that's even with Howard Dean in the primary (who I supported then). I would guess that most of my fellow local Deaniacs will be split between Dennis, Obama, and maybe Edwards. I don't expect a big Hillary turn out, unless the "electability" myth is manufactured between now and then, like it was with Kerry in 2004. Hopefully she will get shut down enough in early primaries to prevent that DLC marketing horseshit this time around.

Whether they are a Kucinich supporter or not..

That's why all these polls on here are so silly..
