Utah: Four more years of Bush is scary, vote for jobs, vote for Kerry!

Today's Utah Democratic primary may not count for much in the race for the presidential nomination, but candidates and their campaigns are stumping for every vote in hopes of a win that could boost struggling challengers or extend the lead for the front-runner, Sen. John Kerry.

Polls open today at noon, but Democrats got an early start Monday evening, cheering on their candidates and vowing to defeat the GOP.

"To the people we represent, to the working people in general, this is probably the most important election we've ever faced," said Gerald McEntee, president of the 1.4 million-member American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which had backed former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and now is waiting to endorse another candidate. "We ought to be prepared and even to make sacrifices to put everything into it that we can probably put into it."

Hundreds of Democrats packed the Union Pacific ballroom in Salt Lake City for a political pep rally on the eve of the party-run primary. Campaign buttons, mainly for Kerry, were everywhere, along with a large sign saying, "Take back America." "Four more years of Bush is scary, vote for jobs, vote for Kerry," chanted young men holding campaign signs outside the event.
