12. True progressives?
I don't see Hillary (Bush in a pink pansuit) as anything other than a corporate sellout. She talks a good game with health care for all, but where are the true progressives who can get elected?

2. Regardless, the Repubs will try to sink or Swift Boat the Dem nominee. They have to...
because they have shit for candidates, so they have to resort to sinking the other candidate rather than building up their own guy, which is easy. You just need a shovel to pile up that bullshit they got over there.

14. Cut losses and move to Canada
I don't mean to sound defeatist but have people given Canada much thought? Hillary and Obama are not going to deliver and we know that the rethuglikkkans will swiftboat the democrat candidate and steal votes with their thuggery.

Canada has universal health care and a much more progressive populace that isn't made up of racist huckleberry warmongers.

3. 100% False...
It says that 9% of people that choose Obama do so because he has the best chance of winning in November. You could use the same data to suggest that 10% of Iowans think Hillary is honest...the fact is that 10% of those that support her do so because they think she is the most honest.

QUESTION before starting a thread about it. The original posting is simply wrong!

15. It shows his supporters aren't thinking long term.
He's pretty and shiny and stuff. They aren't thinking about his ability to win in November like the Edwards, Clinton, and Biden supporters are.

4. This is a horse race question.
Note that they don't ask "Who's your favorite?" or "Who's positions do you like?" The MSM asks "Who will OTHER PEOPLE pick?"

7. Here is the question...the original posting is misleading about the poll
QUESTION: Which ONE of the following qualities are you most looking for in deciding which
candidate to support? Someone who: (ORDER ROTATED)
26% cares about the issues I care about
21% is honest and trustworthy
19% represents change and a new approach
17% has the right experience
11% has the best chance to win in November
6% Other/Not Sure (NOT READ)

CHANGE ISSUES EXPERIENCE WINNER HONEST
CLINTON 7% 25% 53% 27% 10%
OBAMA 52% 14% - 9% 29%
EDWARDS 24% 31% 11% 30% 24%
RICHARDSON 4% 17% 15% 9% 14%

8. I would think that question would tend to favor Clinton instead of Edwards.
The Dem polls taken nationwide show Clinton in the lead. Polls that I have seen in the past that ask who would do best against the Repub candidate pointed towards Edwards, but I haven't followed up on those polls in a couple months.

Is there an (R) version of this online? I would like to see what their top issues are. My guess is that they are all up in arms thinking Pakistanis are going to start flooding our borders.

11. Good grief...how many times can the MSM ask approximately the same...
question of Iowans? Those people must be awfully tired of the repetition.

Besides, at this point, they will have something equaling hard numbers to work with. Even with the archaic system in place.

MSNBC must be hiring people with an IQ of 63(bartcop is 64)or lower to ask these dumb questions.

20. This polls shows that Iowans don't have all of the info they need
about what it will take to win the GE.

There is a myth being perpetuated in reference to John Edwards.
The same myths that we have read on these boards since the fall; that Edwards is most electable simply because he is the most CW candidate in the running;i.e., the White male from the south.

What some Iowans aren't keeping in mind is that Edwards has yet to have been vetted or tested in earnest by the media in the 5 years he's been running....
and that will be the biggest part of his "electability" problem if he wins the nom.

In reference to the media and its history with Edwards,
They loved him 2 weeks prior to Iowa in 2004.
They loved him throughout the primaries after Iowa in 2004.
They lobbied for him to become Kerry's Veep pick in 2004.
We barely knew he was there during the '04 general election,
except for his so/so debate against Cheney
They only mentioned his hair and his wife until December of 2007.
and looking like a rerun, they are loving him 2 weeks prior to Iowa in 2007.

Campaign financing limits is what now makes him attractive to the Corporate media and the GOP....
which is why we are getting so many "pleasant" reports on Edwards now....right in the nick of time for the caucuses.

Unfortunately, Edwards will be ready for his close up too late for a buyer's remorse warrantee to help us....and the infamous "electability" myth of the primaries will once again die a slow death.

They will bury him....with the exact right-on-the money timing.....and as most of us know, money talks, and timing is everything!

MSNBC did NOT ask Iowans: "Who has best chance to win in
November?"

11% of respondents said their top issue is winning in 2008

Among that group of 11%, their candidate choices are

CLINTON 27%
OBAMA 9%
EDWARDS 30%
RICHARDSON 9%
BIDEN 17%
DODD -
KUCINICH -
GRAVEL -
UNDECIDED 11%

22. spot on
it's a bit disturbing that so few care very much about winning, but after all, this is a poll response, not a caucus vote. People don't always tell the truth, do they? A LOT of people might say they are idealists, and want to see X nominated regardless of whether X will win, until the specter of President Guiliani, or Huckaby, or Romney looms big in their minds.

Despite all the work they put into thses polls, they are still stupid. And the people answering are so fed up with them they are probably just making shit up.
