In case you haven't heard, we got rid of the strict rules in the GD:2004 forum. That is why you are seeing many more inflammatory posts than you did one week ago.

I'm still getting a lot of complaints asking why threads aren't locked or deleted, or demanding that certain people get banned. The mods have backed off because the rules have changed.

But don't despair! You have the power to make threads and people disappear. You don't even have to waste your time convincing the moderators to do your bidding for you. You can be your own moderator!

If you think a thread should go away, just click this: Presto! It's gone!

If you want to see another member go way, just click this: Voila! They're gone!

And if you think the entire GD:2004 forum is crap and should be shut down, just go to your preferences page and set "Hide the GD: 2004 forum?" to "Yes". It'll make all these threads go away!

little "xbox" liberally since the rules changed; it's easy and rewarding. I've been using it on Nader threads; the only one I couldn't "disappear" was yours, LOL.

I plan to unignore most of the people on my ignore list after the convention, and to clean up my ignored threads on a weekly basis, after they've had a chance to sink.

I was kind of hoping that it would make the whole forum disappear from the forum listings (in the left column AND from the Lobby page).

I guess we have to rely on our own willpower to NOT click those links and continue to peek inside to witness the carnage and to see if there are any enemies left standing.

Does the underlieing software permit a change that would allow me to go through and click a whole bunch of threads and then update the forum all at once? I'd love to hide about 50% of the threads that appear here at any one time, but clicking back and forth from the listing to the confirmation page is a bit time consuming.

22. Hiding threads is the best way to go.

That's one really nice feature, and one that I use regularly these days. There's been so much hysteria lately that I've been zapping threads left and right.

"Ignore" is good too.

It is no small coincidence that the threads I zap the most are filled with "ignored...ignored...ignored.."

25. These features are very user-friendly and should be used

more often by members, IMHO. I have made a habit of using ignore, and Iv'e found it makes for a much more enjoyable experience when checking out DU. For example, when spotting covert freeps or dittoheads it is easier to place on ignore then alert mod and wait for a removal that may not come {some of these repubs are subtle about it}. Also, a harsh truth but there are some posters that aren't worth reading, due to a pattern of juvenile comments or hit-and-run silly posts {most likely they are attention-seeking kids} or even at DU unfortunately, just run of the mill jerks.

One thing that I have noticed is some of the names on my ignore list have ended up getting banned eventually, so evidently I'm not the only one that notices certain consistent behaviors.

i just started to explain to another in this thread - how it is that when they attack others they also attack me - then i was going to go on to say how i was sorry that i attacked another the other day - and explain that by doing so i was also actually attacking myself (i'm sorry and i've forgiven myself) - but i decided not to post that - because i didn't think it would make any sense to that poster - especially since that particular poster and i have never even spoken directly to eachother - and also since they seem to have a hard time comprehending rather simple instructions - i'd most likely just confuse them and / or perhaps they'd just become angry - that certainly is not my intent - concerning this particular issue...

anyway - i issue warnings to myself frequently... :)
