Toyota official: Sunroof injury couldn't kill Bhutto
Toyota official: Sunroof injury couldn't kill Bhutto

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto could not have been fatally injured even if she did hit her head on the sunroof lever of her Land Cruiser, says an official of the Toyota that manufactures the vehicle.

"We are convinced that it can't be a lever (that caused the fatal head injury) but we are still looking into more details," the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

According to the official, the lever could not have caused the head injury as it was installed inside the vehicle and was at least six centimeters from the edge of the sunroof.

At the same time, he did not dispute the fact that there could have been bloodstains on the lever. "This is understandable. If she was hit in the head by a bullet, bloodstains could have been left on the lever."

Government spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said that Bhutto was killed after she hit her head against the sunroof lever of her Toyota Land Cruiser as it left the Liaqat Bagh in the twin city of Rawalpindi after addressing a rally.

Cheema did not dispute the fact that three bullets were fired and followed by a bomb blast but claimed that neither the bullets nor shrapnel from the explosion hit the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader.

Instead, Cheema said Bhutto had stood up from the sunroof to wave to her supporters and dashed her head on the lever when she tried to duck after hearing the gunshots.

Cheema had justified his claim by saying that there was blood on the lever. Toyota officials held a meeting in Karachi after Cheema's statement.

PPP leaders have ridiculed Cheema's assertion, saying that many of Bhutto's associates saw the bullet wounds on her.

PPP information secretary Sherry Rehman, who supervised the ritual of bathing Bhutto's body, said there were clear bullet wounds on her head.

2. inside the vehicle and was at least six centimeters from the edge
It is increasingly clear that while we may not know exactly how Bhutto died, bumping her head on the lever of the sun roof was not the cause of death. What is most interesting at this point is why the Pakistani authorities have chosen to lie about what killed Bhutto, as they certainly have done so.

3. Well, they'd know.
What a stupid, easily explodable lie. Musharraf is certainly not on his best game.

6. That is evident. Musharraf is not in control.
Very bad lies. I don't understand what Mushy thought he would gain with this.

11. "easily exploadable lie" is not necessarily bad from the liar's perspective
I have written about this many times, the concept I call "inherent uncertainty." Electronic voting machines that count in secret ensure we can never know the true outcome of an election, thus creating inherent uncertainty. Contradictions and scientific impossibilities in the "official story" of 9/11 make it impossible to know for sure what happened that day, creating inherent uncertainty. Pseudo-science used to attack global warming or the threats of smoking tobacco also create inherent uncertainty, as many people believe pure propaganda over demonstrably provable facts.

There are many more examples but the point is that inherent uncertainty is intentionally created to confuse and disorient the public. Worst of all, what this does is create a rift in the perception of reality. Everybody thinks they know "the truth" and yet people hold diametrically opposed views of what that is. This is not an accident. It happens very intentionally all over the place and once you are able to see it, you will see it everywhere. Varying explanations for how Bhutto died are not really intended to lead everyone to believe in one version, but rather exist to make sure many people believe in many different explanations.

9. I love my Toyota Echo
13k for a great car. 40mpg, had it 6 yrs so far and only had to change the oil. I always bought Fords but got tired of them always being in the shop for expensive repairs rather than on the road. When the tranny on our 1998 Windstar died at 60k I just gave up buying American......or rather thought I was giving up on buying American. Turns out most of the Toyotas had a higher percentage of American parts than most of their companion cars at Ford.

FORD = Found On Road, Dead.... or is it, Fix Or Repair Daily?

13. We know now she didn't die from the lever, but I don't think this was an original vehicle
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 09:32 PM by IDemo
It appeared to me in the photo of the sunroof on Bhutto's SUV that the sunroof assembly was an custom add-on unit. The levers are plainly in sight well above the sunroof opening, even if they are a bit away from the opening because of the angle. Toyota may have responded thinking that an original unmodified vehicle was involved.
