What's the big appeal about Bloomberg?
I never thought he was much more than a big zero either way. I don't understand how this guy could generate any excitement at all if he ran as an Independent. I mean, as interest in NYC mayors goes, it's not even like he's any Ed Koch or anything even close.

What's the big attraction, other than he's got billions of dollars?

1. "He's insanely rich, so he can't be bought!" is one argument I frequently see. That would be true
of anyone worth billions though.

By that argument we should make Richard Mellon Scaife our president, or Bill Gates.

7. The key word is "bought" trying to buy this election is Bloomberg
having old timey republicans and old timey democrats. I would never trust in someone that was a democrat and then a republican and then an independent. Oh my my I just described Joe Lieberman except all he needs to do now is become a republican....Maybe in the 08 senate races the dems can win 6 to 8 seats and then the new majority leader I hope will tell old Joe that he has been striped of his chairmanships and he can now go caucus with the republicans...

2. He's basically Hillary except more soc. liberal and people don't dislike him...
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 03:42 PM by annie1
in the way that they dislike hillary. and he's very progressive and doesn't pander for sh-t, and will tell people where they can stick it.

(needless to say, i will be voting for hil)

this is why he will run if she wins the nom, but most likely not if obama wins the nom.

3. i live in nyc
he's competent and seems well versed in all aspects of public policy. For a super-rich dude, he seems to have a good understanding of the struggles poor people and even the middle class face. if we had to pick between him and the other Republicans we would easily be better off with Bloomberg. I like our guys over him though.

The "big deal" about Bloomberg, in a nutshell is that he is not Ghouliani, McCane, the Mormon Fuck, Huckleberry Hound, Lurch, TankFredo, or any of the other mindless fucktards on the GOP stage.

10. Every month DU has a new candidate that will DOOOOOOOOOOOM us in November.
First it was 9iu11iani. Then it was Fred Thompson. Then it was Huckabee. Then it was McCain. Now that they have all faded, it is time for the next boogeyman... Bloomberg! Even though the people who know him best, NY, don't have any excitement for him, even though the rest of the country has no excitement for him, we are DOOOOOOOOOMED!!!!

13. A lot of people would like a viable Independent to win
If Bloomberg generates enough support, and runs not merely as a spoiler, he would have a decent shot at winning.

I'd like him even more if he wasn't backed by Giuliani to be his successor, and didn't speak at the GOP Convention in 2004.

in the pocket of the isreal interest. but i think it'll be less of an issue than being a woman. and equal or more of an issue than being black. lol. those are my guesses.
