If you are considering voting for Bloomberg
then fuck you I'm a Democrat.

Big up this thread with recommends if you agree and then they'll have to look at it up there on the front page! Let's show our Democratic unity!

He used to be before he switched to Republican before he switched to Independent.

Maybe he'll switch to Green next, or the Natural Law Party. There are a few more obscure parties he can try out before the general election.

13. If Bloomberg is a Democrat, he should have run in the
Democratic Primary. That is what Democrats do. We do not need another spoiler. These blue dog Democrats were silent while Bush stole the country blind, tortured, destroyed the Constitution, lied and killed. Now, suddenly they realize that Americans are awake and ready to vote for the Constitution, for justice, for good government. And so they want to take advantage of it. They have corporate America behind them, the same corporate America that held its hands out while Bush poured America's wealth into their hands so they could hide it overseas in their numbered bank accounts. No thanks guys. We Americans are awake now and we are on to your lies and tricks. We want our America back. We do not want Bloomberg and Nunn and that liar Gary Hart.

At least he actually changes parties when he thinks it's politically expedient to do so. He doesn't claim to be a Democrat while voting like a Republican.

That said, I doubt I'd vote for him. A billionaire corporatist from NYC isn't exactly my idea of a good candidate.

I'll consider the Repub, too, for that matter--however briefly. Nothing wrong with considering and thinking it through--I'm an open-minded gal, and if I really like the person, party becomes less important. Almost always, though, after all of my deliberations, I vote Democratic.

I'll never ever forgive them for that.

Of course that is only the beginning of my gripes with them. But that is where it all started for me.

I live in NYC too and he really has been a poor caretaker. He cut back services while raising property taxes on middle class home owners to give tax breaks to big corporations. Plus he had the NYPD illegally detain thousands of people during the GOP convention in 2004.

he set up 311 for us
started to plant 1 million trees
raised teachers salaries by 15% in his first term
got rid of our 2.3B deficit
got rid of smoking in bars (thank goodness)
started OpportunityNYC and GreenNYC
got rid of a ton of giuliani employees
has spent a lot of time trying to get back control of public schools, and raise test scores

he's done a lot, the city looks very nice and feels nowhere like it did under koch, dikins or that facist pos

52. And as most independent studies have shown
the drop in crime began in 1992 and is due to the additional 5,000 cops on the street that Dinkens got the funding for.

"he set up 311 for us"

That was long in the planning stages before Bloomberg got in office.

"started to plant 1 million trees"

So far very few trees have been planted.

"raised teachers salaries by 15% in his first term"

Only because the UFT gave him no choice and he has repeatedly tried to tie bonuses and raises to the results of standardized test scores ala Bush's No Child left Behind program.

"got rid of our 2.3B deficit"

First the deficit number is way overblown and he got rid of the smaller deficit we did face on the back of middle class home owners at hearing held in the dead of night.

"got rid of smoking in bars (thank goodness)"

He imposed his own morality on the whole city and hurt or put out of business many small independently owned businesses in the process.

started OpportunityNYC and GreenNYC

Again, both were in the planning stages long before Bloomberg took office. It's like giving Nixon credit for the moon landings just because he was the guy there when the program came to fruition.

"got rid of a ton of giuliani employees"

So he got rid of people experienced in running the city and replaced them with people loyal to him. Just like Bush did when he took office.

"has spent a lot of time trying to get back control of public schools, and raise test scores"

As any educator will tell you teaching kids to score well on a standardized test is not real education.

60. A lot of things are.
From Wikipeadia:

"Although many commentators (and proponents of Giuliani's presidential bid) have suggested that the New York City Police Department's adoption of CompStat, broken windows policing, and other strategies during the administration of Rudolph Giuliani were responsible for the drop in crime, independent statistical studies have found that these initiatives "probably had little effect" on New York City's crime rate. These studies found that the dramatic reduction in crime was strongly correlated with the increases in the number of police officers that started under Mayor Dinkins"

http://samoa.istat.it/Eventi/sicurezza/relazioni/Langan_rel.pdf

And to be fair the Times Square and 42nd Street revitalization projects were started under Koch and didn't come to fruition until the mid-90s.

So far the only people I rate as dirtier than the Clinton's would be George Bush. Lee Atwater was before my time so I'm not sure how that went.

Oh, and I guess Nixon too.

I read in Daily Kos that someone got a push poll slamming Edwards and Obama and when the caller asked if they knew anything bad about Clinton, they declined to add anything.

I knew the Clinton's were dirty and nothing shocks me anymore.

Nothing in the rules of this website state how someone must vote. However, if someone comes along and starts posts stating that people SHOULD vote for Bloomberg over democratic candidates, that is one thing, but what they personally choose to do and how they answer a question when it is specifically asked is different.

Edwards, Clinton, Biden or Dodd, Bloomberg is an easy choice.

Not sure about Obama, it would entirely depend on how hard he hits the religion in the GE. If he harps on religion, Bloomberg will be the only choice.
