I'll vote for Edwards for this reason ...
He appears to honestly oppose our government being controlled by Big Business.

"No corporate lobbyist or anyone who has lobbied for a foreign government will work in my White House," Edwards pledged.

Edwards also says he will take Big Money out of politics. That is something no other candidate has promised in eight years.

The last man who vowed to reform political contributions was John McCain in 2000. The GOP Big Money Contributors grabbed him by the scruff of the neck like he was a puppy who just sh*t on the carpet, slapped him across the ass with a folder newspaper, stuck his nose in it --- and then threw him out the door. McCain -- who now supports anything Big Business wants -- will be the first to admit he has been a much better (and house-broken) Conservative Republican because of that experience.

1. Very colorful description of what happened to McCain...
And, sadly, right on the money!

4. I fear that it is a tactic to get elected, actions speak louder than words
and his actions have historically been pro-coporations. His sudden change may be real, but I am hesitant.

5. Fighting "big business" in this country is admirable but utterly futile.

They have power & influence that, short of a socialist overthrow, isn't going away. All the huffing & puffing that Edwards does isn't going to blow the house down.

Anyway, where would Edwards be without big business to sue?

Uh Yeah, I'm sure there is no possible way the 80% of us who are suffering can ever win. Lets just surrender control of our lives willingly right now and save time. Good post.

"A socialist overthrow" huh? Some of us just call it the Democratic party primaries. Radical extremists like me get to hate America when we vote and sometimes we came bring our commie-pinko policies right into the white house. :eyes:

9. You're ASSuming that Edwards wants to 'overthrow' big business/eliminate it
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 12:04 PM by Triana
....that is NOT his objective. He seeks to level the playing field between big business/lobbyists and the rest of us such that OUR voices are heard in addition to theirs. Right now ONLY THEIRS are heard. NO ONE represents the people, only big business and lobbyists.

He's going to change that.

THAT DOES NOT MEAN "doing away" with big business. IT DOES mean reducing their all-encompassing influence in our gov't and returning to us a government OF, BY AND FOR THE PEOPLE instead of one OF, BY AND FOR BIG CORPRATS.

Do you see any other colors than black or white? Others do, so maybe stop the rediculous selling of a b/w world to people. We know better.

SO DOES John Edwards.

11. I don't want to hurt business ..... Big or little

That's exactly what I want. But to get that -- we need to elect a president who will do to them what they did to McCain. If they find themselves out on the front porch in the snow and sleet, with a sore ass and a stuffy nose -- they will learn to leave the election process to the American voters.

I don't think we will get it until we give our complete support to a candidate who at least has the courage to promise to help us. With our continued support, he may actually act on that promise.

13. Exactly...
...but big business will cry and scream and lobby and manipulate that they're being hurt - and getting their asses kicked back to the same level as "we the people" in regards to their influence on gov't might hurt a little but I don't know of anyone (including Edwards) who wants to eliminate them or their influence. We might like to see it brought back into proper balance though.

What's at stake IS the future of our country and our childrens' future, which has been literally sold down the corprat river for their profits. And that just ain't right. Edwards is the only (electable) one who seems to even be TALKING about doing anything about it at all!

It's the biggest single reason I support him. There are others. He was my Senator and I know how he works and that he DOES work primarily FOR PEOPLE, not the powerful.

We need this change so badly but getting congress to go along would be most difficult.

You are correct about getting Congress to go along. We need bigger majorities in both Houses.

10. He also has the best chance to defeat ANY of the Repiggies.
In poll after poll JE stacks up better than anyone else head to head.

He also has good support with Independents.
