Could he be the next Governor of California?

Gavin Newson, rogue mayor of San Fransisco.

Any thoughts on Newsom.

BTW, has Newsom earned your respect for standing up the the "Gropernator?"

2. No way
Southern California is NOT liberal and neither is the valley. California VOTERS outlawed gay marriage.

11. Ummm, Yang?
LA is certainly liberal. Orange County, especially Mission Viejo, has some issues. San Diego and the San Bernadino area the same. But don't be too quick to broad-brush southern cal as not liberal. Most of us down here voted against Arnold.

5. Newsom can get in line behind
St atty Gen Bill Lockyer
State Treasurer Phil Angelides
Comptroller Steve Westly
Cong Loretta Sanchez
Cong Jane Harmon

just for starters. Newsom was a widely despised supervisor here just a few months ago. Grabbing media attention by flaunting the law (even when I agree with him) is no qualification to run for higher office. Let him prove himself substantively first.

He's an ex-supervisor, for God's sake. A legend in his own mind.

8. clean up SF first.
Lets see if he can fix the junkie and roaming lunatic problem first,

last time i was there, the police seemed more interested in a car with muddy liscense plates than the bum peeing off the overpass.

10. The car with muddy license plates was used in a crime

the bum has no where else to pee thanks to the bookend recessions of B1 & B2

And I've seen more roving lunatics in Victoria
except they call them "street performers " there
They still smell alike

12. As a San Franciscan who voted for Gonzalez
I'd just like to say that so far I have been pleasantly surprised by Newsom. First and foremost, his stand on gay marriage. He didn't have to pick this fight, and he certainly didn't have to go as far as he has. The fact that he has, I think, really speaks to his character.

I also read that he went to one of the poorer areas of the city (Hunter's Point) with all the various city Dept. heads and began pointing out all the things that they would be fixing. Broken playground equipment, street lights, trash...he told them to fix it all and that he'd check back in one month.

If he continues to operate this way I will cheerfully vote for him the next time he runs. I was never one who called him a Republican, but I was worried that he'd be a Democrat in the same vein as Willy Brown, who I felt did very little positive for the city in a financial boom-time (when it would have been relatively easy to invest in the city).

Anyway, hope this is coherent. I'm kinda tired. :)

16. Ironic
Ironic that the man who people were calling a GOP Stooge Corporate whore a scant 3 months ago is now a liberal hero.
