24. I can't answer that question.
He is, however, the first replacement suggested to go up against Musharraf.

6. Not likely immediate successor. He can barely speak Urdu. My guess after he is done with Oxford...
he will move into Pakistani politics. But I don't know if I trust this report. Benazir was getting prepped up for Pakistani politics ever since she was a child. Her father used to take her on trips as his apprentice.

Benazir has never done that with her children. Also, with the Bhutto name and legacy, he will be a target. And not just from Taliban/Al Queda - who I don't think were responsible for Benazir's death.

With Pakistani politics, you mostly need charisma to win an election. It will be interesting to see if he has it.

7. But this 19 year old kid is eligible to fight in their army?
In this country he would have to register for the draft at 18. And he would be eligible to vote.

And anyway, suceeding his mother as the head of the party doesn't mean that he would run for Prime Minister.

9. He'd be a figurehead, surrounded by his mother's advisers
It seems a heavy curse to put onto a teenager. He'll have inherited all his mother's enemies, too.

Whether he gracefully gives up his presidency to the winner of the election of not.

16. Not much younger than she was when her own father
was assassinated. What a terrible thing for him to face at nineteen.

17. I don't like this
Seems like the weight of the world is being put on a nineteen year old kid, even
if he's not expected to step up to the plate right away. If he were my son, I
would want him away from what Benazir was trying to accomplish. Just makes me
think of the two Kennedy brothers being assassinated, too horrible to fully
comprehend, even at this late date. How much should be expected of one family?

drunken frat boy in charge of our nuclear arsenal. What could possibly go wrong? :sarcasm:

23. Thats democracy?
What a joke - make the next leader of your national party the next of kin, instead of the best candidate, or even an experienced person.

BTW, at least they should have gone with Fatima instead - her resume is more accomplished.

26. She is good looking also. However Fatima Bhutto has said some very bad stuff about her aunt, Benazir
such as blaming her father's death on Benazir. I don't know how well that will go with Benazir's party, the PPP.

She is an accomplished lady though.

25. later news = Bhutto's party to decide on successor, election
snip
Bhutto's 19-year-old son, Bilawal, is to read her will on Sunday but the Oxford law student is seen as too young to lead a dynasty whose history is entwined with that of Pakistan.

The choice of a successor lies between Bhutto's husband, Asif Ali Zardari, and her top aide, Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

"Everybody in the party knows that they have to stick to the legacy of Bhutto and without that legacy, they are nobody," said Najam Sethi, editor of the Daily Times.
