"Maybe She'll Get Struck By Lightning on her way up the Capital steps."
Remember that Hillary supporters? That was Trent Lott after hearing she won the senate seat in NY. You think there's a lot of vitriol against her from democrats, just wait until the RW-haters get THEIR wish with her as the nominee.

1. Do you think they'll be any different with another candidate?
All these people whining about democratic criticisms are in a dream land.
DU has been downright gentle compared to what will be coming from the Repukes...

5. Agreed
I wanted to tell you Hillary supporters that have been calling me names and saying a lot of nasty stuff to us other-than Hillary supporters. A few years ago I had a different screename (oustemnow) and had finally had it with what I was hearing Rush Limbaugh say about her on a daily basis. This was right before his drug story broke in the national media and I was the one who outed him first-here on DU (Rush Limbaugh is A Fat Junkie was the thread title I think). The REASON I outed him with my inside PB County info was BECAUSE of his anti-Hillary shtick. So before anybody goes and calls me a Hillary hater ever again I qualify with this.

13. Actually, I do. Their hatred of Hillary EXCITES them. They love it.
While Biden, Edwards or Jesus (D) would all get the usual mud thrown at them, nothing pumps up the GOP more than their hatred of Hillary.

That in itself doesn't make me want to keep her from being our nominee, but she isn't better than the other candidates on anything. It's funny her supporters claim "experience" yet Biden thumps her in that department.

23. Yes. For whatever reason, the right wingers get really pumped about the
Clintons, even though I consider them Republican Lite. Maybe it's a carryover from Arkansas politics, but there it is. The Right was snide about Gore and Kerry, but they positively slaver when a Clinton is the topic.

24. It's Close. Either Would Bring the Morans Out of the Woodwork by the Busload
Either of the "frontrunners" would motivate Repiglickers to vote against them more than they would motivate Democrats to vote for them.
They are not very appealing candidates.
It is hard to say which one would bring out the wingnuts more.

2. Do you think it's just Hillary that get's them going..
or do you think they would react that way to any Dem woman running for president? Is it because she is "Mrs. Bill" or just because she is "Mrs."?
I really believe that any female candidate as strong as Hillary would invoke their vitriol..just my opinion.

10. Some of it's Hillary, but it's mostly the ovaries that tick them off.
Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 01:13 PM by chascarrillo
Regardless, "electability" is a poor rationale for ditching a candidate. Go with what your gut tells you. Whoever ends up winning the nom will end up with the full support of Democrats, and we're coming on strong.

6. Trent later on apologized to her for his words.
So did Lindsey Graham and Sam Brownback. They all mentioned how much they grew to like and respect Hillary once they got to know her. So many Republican senators repeated the same thing that it became a cliche: Hillary is not how we thought that she would be. They imagined her to be like the caricature etched by the extreme right and were pleasantly surprised that she turned out to be warm, funny, an extremely hard worker and didn't try to hog the limelight. Today, the senator who other senators seek the most to co-sponsor bills is Hillary.

7. Yes, we should nominate someone the republicans like....
Perhaps Lieberman is safe enough to satisfy you? Maybe Zell would be a safe, smear proof, choice that you approve of? Hey, Kerry was the safe choice, right? The right didn't go after him like they would have Howard Dean, did they? Hell, lets just let Trent Lott pick our nominee for us! Why don't you go and ask him who he wants us to run?

HRC isn't my first choice, but if she gets the nomination, its going to be because she got more support from Democrats than any of the other candidates.

I would vote for the proverbial yellow dog over any of the Repiglicons,
but we will lose quite a bit of support from our own party with HRC.
Obama has the same problem.

16. Yes, and compare the relative positions of Clinton and Lott today...
Republicans implode around the Clintons... it's weird, but they do. They're like the coyote vs. the road-runner... after a while one asks why the coyote doesn't just find something else to eat. But he can't help himself.

Clinton-hate is a highly counter-productive addiction for Republicans.

30. It will win her votes
Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 03:03 PM by Tom Rinaldo
The Right wing Clinton haters threw a lot of Congressional seats to Democrats in 1998 out of a backlash against the outrageous impeachment of Bill Clinton. Watch Independent and moderate and even some conservative Republican women cast their votes for Hillary if she gets savagely assaulted during the campaign.

The real political secret is that Republicans do not know how to campaign against a tough woman presidential candidate. They could smear her in their underground emails and on Right wing talk radio where they are speaking to the converted, but they can't go general public with that approach in a Presidential election without risking a large sympathy backlash for Hillary. When the real haters go there anyway it will become a huge distraction for the Republican candidate when both the Clinton campaign and the media call them on it.

It will also make voters reexamine any anti-Clinton bias they have when they see a sane articulate and intelligent woman regularly being vilely assaulted. Republicans have their script for fighting female candidates; they label them as bleeding heart liberal "mommy party" candidates who can't be trusted to be tough enough to make the hard choices when America is threatened. That is how Republicans like to oppose women, but that script doesn't work with Hillary. When the pure bile spills out against Hillary, and it will, it will hurt the Republican Party with most voters.

34. Now alot of Publican Senators respect and even like her
That will happen with the country at large, and it's not something I see in any of our other candidates to any great degree.

As to the specific fear of rabid Hillary-hatred by some or even alot of wingers, 6 grouped points:

- They're not going to vote Democratic anyway
- They're going to quickly learn to completely hate whatever other Dem they're taught to hate

- Some percentage of them are going to go far enough over the line to cause them media problems
- And alienate ('Are these the people I'm considering supporting?') both the media and voters

- I don't care. I'm not letting those people decide my mind
- Even more, I'd like to watch them wallow in their hatreds for eight years. It's a plus.

So they can send all the irrational vitriol against Hillary that they want. We're already used to it on DU.
