Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del, Stumps for Biden in Iowa
By Chris Dorsey
IowaPolitics.com

Iowans have been receiving numerous phone calls in recent weeks from volunteers and paid campaign staffers; elected county officials across the state received calls Thursday night and Friday from Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., as he urged Iowans to caucus for his long-time friend and colleague Sen. Joe Biden.

Carper engaged in several discussion with the elected officials, and added his calls were well received.

"I like to think (the people of Delaware) are pretty nice," Carper said. " I have met the nicest people here."

The former Delaware congressman and two-term governor touted the caucus system, and praised Iowans for being civic-minded. He noted the Iowa Caucus gives every candidate the opportunity for their message to be heard -- and that bodes well for Biden, who he has known for three decades.

Carper emphasized Biden's foreign policy experience, and stressed the importance of that knowledge going into the caucus and primary election season.

"Voters this time out are looking for someone who can lead the world in the 21st Century," Carper said. "We need to have a president that understands the world and the challenges we face around the world."

Biden has reached out to Iowans asking them for their support since entering the race earlier this year. However, he has not received a significant bump in the polls as the Democratic race looks like a three-person battle.

That is unfortunate, Carper said, stressing his friend brings more than just legislative experience to the table. Carper got choked up when he reflected back to the early 1970s when he discussed the Joe Biden he knows who lost his wife and daughter in a tragic car accident. Biden's resolve and appreciation for family is unmatched, Carper said.

"A lot of people talk about family values, he is the real deal," Carper said.

2. I think it's a good thing Delaware has sent two Democratic Senators to the
U.S. Senate and also a good thing that Joe's colleague from his home state is standing alongside him in the frozen fields of Iowa.

Very nice.

3. I have met 6 members of the Biden family, and they are for real.
Not only do they have the intelligence to discuss all issues without hesitation, they are warm, friendly and caring people. If all our families could be as close as they are, our country would be so strong, no one could harm us.

Compared to what we have in the WH at this time, the Bidens glow with warmth and friendliness. You can't go wrong with Joe. He IS the real thing.
