Is it in our national interest to support an independent investigation into Bhutto's assassination?
I haven't formed an opinion on this question rolling around in my head. I might support Clinton's call for an eventual independent investigation. At least I am not first off opposed to it. Can I please hear pros and cons if you are interested? Thank you.

The question up for discussion:

Is it in our national interest to support an independent investigation into the Bhutto's assassination?

(Not: Is it in Pakistan's interest?)

What has it gotten us?

9. Nothing but trouble
We should stop propping them up. That would certainly be in our national interest.

3. The truth should always be in our national interest.
I'm not sure how an "independent" investigation of an incident on Pakistani soil would be possible, however.

4. What we need is an independent investigation of why we invaded Iraq

I am so tired of these "diversions"

Here is another headline "diversion" I saw today:

Iraq: Al-Qaida 75 percent gone

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071229/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

What the hell does that mean? First of all, effectively al qaida wasn't even in Iraq until we invaded, and second, 75% gone is meaningless. It is like giving an estimate how long it will take to complete something, and you say you are 90% done. However that 10% left will take 30 years to finish

I am convienced that the American people are the dumbest people in the western world

6. Dumb
not if 70% of us want them impeached for the "wrong direction and lies of 911". They ignore us once they go to DC. Their polls rating are single digit but we have been silenced.

We are being lied to and robbed of our future and wealth.

8. Where do you get that 70% want bush impeached? I didn't see too much outrage
on the outing of a CIA by these criminals?

I don't disagree with you sentiments, I just don't think the Americans at large feel that way. At least 30% of bush followers don't believe in evolution, that says quite a lot

5. No hearings
since most of them result in lies and obstruction of justice. We know she was assassinated.

10. only if it involves...
the flow of oil...and then..any independent investigation would have to be classified...because it would be a national security matter.

11. Yes, but it has to be conducted
by the International community. The point of course, is to find out if Musharraf had anything to do with it. It can not be done inside Pakistan, and it can not be done by the US.

12. Define National Interest
And what happens when national interest conflicts with human rights...

To paraphrase Franklin , a nation that is willing to sacrifice the human rights of others to serve their own narrow interests is deserving of neither.
