When is Kerry going to resign as Senator?
Bob Dole resigned June 11, 1996.
Since Kerry never shows up for work anyway, what is he waiting for?

2. When Dole Resigned

Did Kansas have a Republican governor?
Does Massachusetts now have a Democratic governor?

Lieberman never stepped down running as VP.

I don't recall when Mondale McGovern or Kennedy (all incumbant senators IIRC) stepped down.

Mondale
wasn't a sitting senator at the time. He was a former VP.

10. Kennedy resigned when he was elected.
We had a democratic Governor then. Kennedy's seat was not up for election. Lieberman's was. I hate Romney so I don't want Kerry to resign his seat until the last minute.

23. IIRC he resigned either in late November or early December.
That seems to be a reasonable time for him to step down.

Its really a rare situation since there have really only been a handful of presidents elected straight from the Senate.

But it would seem horribly improper for the President-elect of the United States to step into the Senate in his capacity as a Senator.

And he will be very busy working on his transition as well.

34. To top it off
Lieberman actually ran for re-election as a senator in 2000 and won handily.

shortly after becoming President-elect, if he should even wait that long.

16. He'd wait until things in MA settle down.
You can bet that the state Democrats would do everything they could to sway Gov. Romney from making a decision he might regret.

25. This is in Boston Globe last 3 weeks - GOP are outraged at idea of
a quick election as that just is not how it is done if you have a GOP gov!

But this is statelevel politics - not Fed - and Kerry is not involved - but I am sure he is watching and smiling!

:-)

If he was sure he had it sewed up he would resign. He isn't and won't.

For the sake of keeping a Dem. in office. He'll be on the floor if he's absolutely needed.

33. He's my senator, and I hope he doesn't resign
Our asshole repuke governor would appoint one of his own to the seat, might even appoint himself. There's no f'n way I want a republican claiming to represent me in the Senate. It's bad enough what we have in Washington claiming to be the choice of the people while he screws the (non-rich) people whenever possible.

38. And he probably won't show up to work in either place
BTW, it's good to see the rules relaxed now that Kerry is heir presumptive. I guess it means we might be able to look closely at his recent record without it being called bashing. Kerry's protectors here have done well.

This is where the Kerry supporters bring up Kyoto and Iran-Contra. I wish Kerry had positives to report from 2000-present. I can't find any.
