I think that this NH primary voter does a good job summing up the reasons for his support of John Edwards. Please also note what he has to say about Edwards' rejection of nuclear power. This is an important issue for many voters that often gets overlooked in comparisons of the energy policies of Obama, Clinton, and Edwards.
"In an earlier post, I noted that according to numerous polls, John Edwards would be the strongest Democratic candidate in the general election. (Sen. Clinton would be the weakest. She has an unfavorability rating that is the highest of ANY presidential candidate of either major party.) This is a very important factor to me. However, there are other reasons to embrace the Edwards candidacy."
"As a former resident of New Orleans, I care deeply about that city and what has happened to it over the past 2+ years. John Edwards officially launched his candidacy from New Orleans and has been way out in front of the other candidates on the issues relevant to that region. He has been a leading advocate for a more rapid and more equitable rebuilding of New Orleans. Others have turned away, but he has not."
"This is related to his overall concern about the growing economic divide in our country, the excessive power of the largest corporations, the decline of the American middle class, and growing poverty and homelessness. I believe John Edwards would be the most capable and relentless fighter in the battle for economic and social justice."
"I also like John Edwards' health care plan. It is not single-payer, which is what we really need, but it is a blend of several options that are doable and will achieve universal coverage. Edwards also has a wonderful energy policy that is strong on renewables and conservation. He also rejects nuclear power (prefering to see it phased out in our energy future), unlike Senators Obama and Clinton."
