Report: Gore Unlikely To Endorse In Dem Race
Report: Gore Unlikely To Endorse In Dem Race
By Eric Kleefeld - December 28, 2007, 8:48AM

Within the Democratic race, Al Gore is perhaps the most coveted endorsement a candidate could get. However, the New York Sun reports that former aides say he's unlikely to actually do it. A main reason is that he would not want to sully his post-politics work in environmental activism by taking risks in the primary.

"In many respects, he has transcended partisan politics," said former staffer Chris Lehane. "I think he'll be extremely sensitive about doing anything that could potentially impact his global brand."

10. Al will not support Hillary and her tactics
She struggled with him for 8 years to undercut his role as VP.
She competed with him for fundraising during the 2000 election.

Gore canned Mark Penn, Hillary thinks Penn's her best friend.

The list goes on...

In the General, he'll support the Democratic nominee.

13. Only possibility would be an impasse at the Convention
If, somehow, no one won enough delegates, Gore could sweep in... but that's so unlikely as to not bother thinking about.

16. There won't be
the convetions are little more than media spectacles these days. The last time we even came near a deadlocked convention was in 1960, and even that was sorted out relatively easily.

17. Good, his endorsement in 2004 was irresponsible.
He shouldn't try and play kingmaker.

19. Irresponsible?
I'm genuinely intrigued by this...why do you think it was "irresponsible" for Gore to endorse Dean in the '04 campaign? Was it the timing? Was it that it was a slap in the face to Holy Joe Lieberman?

18. Makes Sense
Regardless of what people here think about Gore, he could end up being a liability if he does this. Aside from the inevitable "he's-using-the-Nobel-Peace-Prize-for-political-gain" argument, it would help to break down the Democrat's platform of change.

Besides, remember what happened to Dean after he got Gore's endorsement? Does anybody here really think that any of the candidates would accept it?

20. They expect me to believe Lehane and the NY Sun over Gore himself?
What a joke.
He may not endorse, but this is just spin from Lehane. He knows Gore wouldn't endorse his candidate, so he's trying to discourage him from doing so.
