Please note, Townhall is a project of the Heritage Foundation. Yes, THAT Heritage Foundation.
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/jaybryant/jb20040222.shtmlMy theory is that the longer John Edwards stays in the race, the worse it is for President Bush.
No, I'm not really worried that Edwards will actually beat Kerry. Of course, it's possible, but unless Kerry decides to spend some of his TV face time screaming the names of all the states he can think of, it's a real long shot. And even if Edwards were to get the nomination, it wouldn't matter much, except that he can't do it unless the race is prolonged, maybe right up to the convention.
That's what should worry Bush supporters, regardless of who wins.
It's a simple point, really. The Bush campaign is hemorrhaging votes. Why would this be? Oh, sure, some of it is self-inflicted base trimming. The Administration's big spending proposals upset many conservatives, and his illegal immigrant amnesty plan angered others – and not necessarily the same ones either, meaning that the polling results of the two actions are to some extent cumulative.
The American electorate is also growing decidedly tired of Iraq.
