When MADD gets mad, it's time to duck and cover. Huck is now the bulls eye
again on pardons/clemency, this time because he granted clemency to a
*well-heeled Republican campaign donor* in prison with his forth DUI. After getting the
Huck clemency, he again went on a binge, this time racking up a .18 blood
alcohol level and swerving across the line into the path of an oncoming
police car. Shades of the Wayne Drummond affair, where Huck granted clemency
to a rapist who went on to rape and murder again.
The clemency took place over the dead body, metaphorically speaking, of the
local Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which sent Huck a letter pleading that
Mr. Fields had a record of "ignoring second chances."
As Powerline notes <
http://www.powerlineblog.com/>,Not long after his release, Fields was arrested again for D.W.I. According
to the police report, his Chevy truck crossed the center line of Highway 59
directly into the path of an oncoming police car, which he missed. Fields'
blood-alcohol level measured 0.18, more than twice the legal limit.
Fortunately, but no thanks to Huckabee, no one was injured.
Connecting the dots with Bill Clinton's whimsical attitude toward pardons at
the end of his presidential term, one begins to think that there is
something in the culture or water in Arkansas at play.
The combination of the Wayne Drummond affair and this one should spell the
end of the Huckabee surge. If Republicans nominate this guy, they'll deserve
the trashing they'll get in the general election. The gurgling sound you
hear is James Carville's salivary glands warming up.
