Biden says he's still in the race
ELDRIDGE, Iowa — Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden had spent almost an hour and a half with 75 activists here today, but he just couldn’t walk away before he drilled in this last message: “Please,” he implored the group, “don’t say he’s the best but he can’t win.”

Thus, the challenge for Biden, a 35-year veteran senator from Delaware.

“If you conclude today, tomorrow or any day up to the 3rd that I’m the most qualified person in this race, don’t get sucked into saying he may be the most qualified but he can’t win. I can win if you caucus for me. I can win if you caucus for me,” Biden said at Lancer’s Grille.

Biden said two new legislative endorsements show political leaders in the state still have faith. “People think we’re still in this race. We think we’re still in this race,” he said.

His message hit home with at least one person. Marilyn Whitaker of Eldridge said she had been volunteering for U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, but liked Biden now. “He has been around the world,” she said. “And I like his straightforwardness.”

Biden leaned on his years in the Senate and especially his knowledge of the worldwide landscape to solicit support Saturday. He said his opponents are friends but tend to view countries in isolation, while he sees the big picture. “They all talk about foreign policy like you can treat Iraq in splendid isolation,” he said. “They’re all connected here.”

1. I think Biden
may surprise everyone
in Iowa. People are tired
of the smear campaigns that
remind them of repub tactics.

2. He definitely is still in the race
even if the MSM refuses to acknowledge that fact. What we hear from on the ground in Iowa, Biden has a lot of support and it is still growing. Then there are the undecideds and the supporters of other candidates who aren't firmly committed yet.

The Biden supporters tend to be firm in their conviction, however.

3. He may not have the "charisma" of Obama
the familiarity of Clinton or the attraction of Edwards, but he is a good solid work horse and perhaps this is what we need right now.

4. I think Joe Biden does have charisma
but it is different from Obama's. It is more down-to-earth and folksy. I've seen him at small functions in Iowa and he is very charming and persuasive. He's looks people in the eye and speaks directly to them. He really connects well. Obama's charisma is more like that of a gifted preacher. He gives stunning speeches that inspire, but I don't sense a one-on-one connection with his listeners.

5. question,
this is one of the tragedies of the way msm covers campaigns; Joe Biden is, in fact, one of the MOST charismatic politicians I've ever seen.

6. And oddly enough
I never get tired of listening to him. Can't say that about most politicians. I actually learn a lot from his speeches.

7. President Biden and VP Dodd would make me feel very
comfortable. These guys have the respect of Congress and a very good work record.

8. Excellent video clip of Joe Biden. Thanks.
The man never disappoints. Democrats would be nuts not to choose this man as their nominee.

10. I've seen that video about three times and it always leaves me breathless.
The PASSION this man has for our troops and veterans is humbling. His commitment to them is yet another reason why we really NEED him as our President.

9. He Cannot Afford...
to let this opportunity slip through our fingers. I feel helpless in my effort to get JOE BIDEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE. I can only sit back and watch.

11. anything is possible
Last time around I thought Dean had it sewn up and stopped paying attention. I took a break from politics for a few weeks and all of a sudden Kerry was going to be the nominee and states like mine who don't like to vote until the shouting is over weren't going to change anything. So you never know. I don't think the corporate owned media would ever tell us if a dark-horse candidate they didn't want was doing well. They'd just keep acting "shocked, shocked I tell ya" after every race that person won. Edwards is in the top tier and even he gets ignored alot because of his anti-corporate stances. They act like anyone whose name is not Edwards, Obama, or Hillary has already dropped out.

Biden is totally right. Don't listen to the polls or the news, go in there and fight for your candidate. The real poll is on Jan 3 and its the only one that counts.

15. He'll give it up after NH.
He's a proud man, but he'll see how hopeless it is. Unlike Kucinich, he'll accept the message, IMO.
