It's about Hillary, stupid
It's about Hillary, stupid

Sunday, December 23rd 2007, 4:00 AM

Something was bugging me, but I couldn't figure out what it was. Then it hit me. While I was reading about the campaign, the realization came like a thunderbolt: I'm tired of Bill Clinton.

Tired of his half-truths and full lies about where he stood on Iraq. Tired of his bull, as when he says he'd campaign for Hillary "if we weren't married" and calls her a "world-class genius." Tired of his whining, as when he says the media has been too tough on her and too soft on Barack Obama.

All of this is as real as the lovey-dovey, hug-and-smile photo ops of them in Iowa. It's theater, staged for maximum political impact. We're being played again on the two-for-the-price-of-one angle.

But, as always, the game for him is about him. A vote for her is a vote for him. Vanity is a big part of it, with her victory the succession legacy he was denied when Al Gore lost.

All true, but I fear there is more to it now. He wants to be The Man, again. He wants it so much that it's not clear which President Clinton would be the President. The way he hogs the spotlight, the way he's trotted out to rescue her when she's in trouble and the way he sets the talking points mark him as the lead dog in the Clinton pack. Would he also make the decisions in the White House? All of them? Some of them?

One day he uses the phrase "roll of the dice" to warn against Obama, and soon she's using "roll of the dice" to warn about Obama. The echo chamber happens often enough that if she wins, Hillary could end up being No. 2 in her own administration. Maybe that's the plan.

That makes me really tired. I suspect I'm not alone.

19. The funny thing is that the title of the article is completely inaccurate.
It has nothing to do with Hillary.

The author's mock surprise at his "sudden" revelation is pretty amusing, as well. Insincere declarations of epiphany are a pretty good indication that no change actually occurred.

27. You have to remember that American people dont want to see...
the truth about politics and what our government is involved with. People are afraid of the thought that the government that controls us being corrupt. You can only talk about things that don't matter like poll results. Anyone that still feels that Bill is a person that supports the little people is just keeping their eyes shut. I cant get NAFTA out of my mind and all of the families that have been hurt by losing their paychecks or the people that work in those other countries in horrible work conditions for no pay. Is this really what Americans are about, is this the commercial we want running world wide, America, the home of the Elite and hungry.

Just recently he was on some tv show and was getting caught up in the interview,at one point, he was making a case about Obama and experience and vision and did not realize that it helped Obamas cause until the host questioned him on it and he then did the jiggy and danced around to make the answer fit. I love those career politicians that aren't in it for the people, they make me laugh sometimes.

I hope there are enough Americans that realize that the media is full of lies, spin and agenda...nothing else.

40. It's not what the Americans who I
know "want". But, that "elite and hungry" doesn't seem to bother the "have mores"(they never were very visionary..always about just what they could accumulate). bill, should have stuck with his 2 term legacy and stopped before he was trotted out to smear hillary's opponent. It's not doing the dlcers any good.

22. That's all they have....if people would start posting all the crap
about Obama this board would be non-stop. And after Christmas I have thought about it and I am going to do just that. And ask the Obama butt kissers if they can rationalize all his mess. The lies in his so called life book. The flaming of Hillary because she had planned to run for president when Bill was president, and the fact that he had it all planned and the things he was going to post about Hillary. How he thought the two years in the senate would prepare for the "second coming". And of all the new senators he has had the most lackluster performance of any. He says he co-sponsors bills, so does the rest of the senate. The most notable ones are the republican ones he co-sponsored. He says he wrote bills and there is not one iota of record. The only thing he has done in the senate is sit on his ass and draw the federal salary, preparing to run for president.

37. so, bitwit, you plan on bashing Obama after Xmas....no holiday cheer, I guess
I am already tired of those who complain of Hillary bashing in the same breath as bashing Obama.

I have not chosen a candidate, but it is supporters like bitwit who have made me decide NOT to support Hillary in the primaries. Biden, Obama, Edwards....each of these can do a very good job.

So, on second thought, go ahead Bitwit and continue your bashing of Obama. Tell all your sweet friends in Hillary land to do the same. If enough of you do this negative crap, the voters will be seriously tired of your rants and Hillary could end up 4th place in iowa.

8. Yup it bothers me too.
I wish he would get off the stage already. Let Hillary rise or fall on her own merits. I still think she got the Register's endorsement because of him and she can't keep using him as a crutch. I've always thought he makes her look weak, by cheating on her, by coming to her rescue, by saying stupid things about how she is a "world class genius".

You had your turn Bill. Respect the constitution and retire from the stage please.

15. Most of Us Like Bill a Lot Better than Hillary, and They Know This
That is why they are playing it this way.

If we really did get Bill by electing Hillary, that would be the best thing.

Bill had the sense to say "No" when PNAC came around demanding that he invade Iraq.
Hillary said "Yes". She said "Yes" again to invading Iran.

I have no candidate.

28. Actually I think the republicans hate Hillary even more than Bill
and a lot of DUers now vilify the Clintons more than the freepers. If memory serves me right Bill Clinton was the only Democratic president in the last 27 years. Many here at DU now act like they are in a state of cognitive dissonance. It sounds like most Obama supporters here at DU would rather have a rpuke than Hillary as the next president and are working very hard to make that happen.

Are you so blind that you don't even recognize that you yourself are bashing a Democrat when you call him an "empty suit"?

Wouldn't it be better to just tell us all the good things about Hillary instead? (not just give a list of interest group ratings....)

I have never seen so much venom as many Hillary folks have towards Obama. Seems as if they hate him more than they even do Repukes.

...not so much now. I was so thrilled at the time to have a Democratic president after 12 years of Reagan-Bush that I didn't really pay attention to a lot of the more negative things that came up during those 8 Clinton years -- NAFTA, the cover-up of Reagan-Bush crimes, the corporatism, etc. Of course, they're better than any Republican, but I just think it's time for something new and somebody much more progressive.
