2. Voting "present" signals complete and utter contempt for the measure
but it does nothing to defeat it.

It's like voting for Nader because Gore's campaign rhetoric made him sound like he'd be just another corporate wimp who'd sell us out on everything.

3. You forgot a choice. They can be equally as bad if you vote against the
best interests of the country.

4. I view voting "present" as not willing to make your decision public, or
worse...not being able to make a damn decision!

5. Taking a stand is worse

By voting 'Present', or not voting at all, you can pretend whatever you want later.

You can even stand there with your head held high and condemn other people for not voting the 'right' way, after all the dust has settled and you know what looks better in retrospect.

There are plenty of people who will support your discretionary bravery once the results are in and you've picked their side. Nor will the media be critical if you're up against someone they don't like.

Not taking a stand works way better than you might think.

15. The OP is a hardcore Hillary supporter.
I doubt he wanted a poll where 90% of the respondents chose Obama's position.

11. I'm going to dodge this question and vote Present so I don't have to take a stand.
That way there's no record of me being for or against this, so I can craft a position later when I run for President.

Taking a stand is so 'politics of the past'.

22. All depends on the stand..
Chimpy thinks its more important to take a stand than the right stand...

If the stand is the Iraq War Resolution, The Saber Rattling with Iran, Corporate Welfare via Bankruptcy laws... Present would have been much better than Hillary's votes..

"War is good" is a stand I'd rather get replaced with a non-vote.

Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 07:34 PM by calteacherguy
Voting "present" is equivalent to voting "no" in the Illinois state legislature. Do you need me to explain this to you again?

Voting "present" IS taking a stand, under that legislative system.

29. What's worse by far
is forgoing any actual political work in the real world because you're so busy with your convoluted internets plotting that you have no idea about reality.

These things on DU, they are the equivalent of toilet paper.

Take that however you like, but your time wasting is just that.
