Michael Bloomberg is not electable.
He'll siphon off votes from both dems and repukes. If it's Hillary Clinton v Romney, I think he takes more from Clinton. If it's Clinton v Huckabee, I think he definitely takes more from repukes. If it's Obama v Romney, he'll take more repukes. Same with Huckabee/Obama. Edwards v Romney? I don't think he takes from dems and probably not too much from repukes. Goes without saying that he takes from repukes in an Edwards?huckabee match. I didn't include Guiliani since he won't get it. McCain? If it's Clinton he takes more from her, not so much with Obama and Edwards.

How would he do with independents? In a lot of places I imagine he'd do quite well. Look how well Perot did and he was a nutcase. On the other hand, there are a lot of places that Bloomberg won't play well. He's a socially liberal, Jewish billionaire from NYC. That's no more of a selling point in the parts of the country that won't vote for Clinton or Obama.

I think it's fairly easy to conclude that our most vulnerable nominee in a race with Bloomberg in it, is Clinton. If that's the scenario, I think the odds are good that we'll end up with a repuke.

1. I don't know that he's not electable--it depends on how he campaigns
and markets himself. Hagel's very electable, so that would help him, if that's his running mate. I think he'll really pull more from Repubs, because their field is a mess of liars, petty thieves, religious wackos, cross-dressers, and the elderly. I ain't skeerd of Bloomberg.

2. My guess is he will only run.

if the nominees are Hillary and or Giuliani....Just a wild guess however.

on edit: to clarify I think is does not want either a Clinton or a Giuliani president.

5. No
he would never run against two New Yorkers. What would he bring to the table? He would run if Huckabee got the nomination. Huckabee would cause many moderate fiscal conservatives to become independent. I also think he has a pact with Obama, that he wouldn't run if he got the nomination, mainly because he isn't overly partisan and plans to bring the country together.

12. Just doesn't make sense he would be the anti-huckabee
Huckabee wasn't but hardly a blip on the radar when the Bloomberg candidacy started being discussed.

13. Oh I Think He Would
Doesn't care for Rudy and as I said below he's worried about Hill's negs. I think his loyalty is to the city which he's seen screwed by the current group in DC and the country. And as he belongs to neither party there's isn't party loyalty to be considered.

3. If Either Huckabee Or Clinton Gets The Nom
I predict Bloomberg will jump in. He's worried her negatives are too high and thus in the end she would lose and it seems he doesn't want another repubblicon in. He doesn't like the Huck at all.

4. I agree with your assessment--
I think Bloomberg knows what a disaster Hucky would be, and if Huck's the nominee, Bloomie has an opening you could drive a truck through.

6. Bloomberg may try to win in the electoral college by winning in 2 or 3 states
with enough delegates to deny anyone enough votes to win outright. And then he will trade delegates for pres or vp, since they are separate votes at that point or he will force the election into Congress. If he runs he will have an impact.

8. Does he need to be?
Have you heard Dobbs raving about an independent revolt? I think Dobbs is onto something. If we end up with polarizing, divisive, and or demoralizing candidates, a guy like Bloomberg can do quite well (20%+). It's still EXTREMELY difficult for an independent to win in this country, but he might be able to keep them honest, and that's a good thing.

10. I live in a state where Hillary has NO chance. My vote, or non-vote, doesn't
matter. If Hillary is the nominee, I'll be writing in Edwards or Kucinich.

So, I just want to put that out there before Bloomberg gets labeled a spooler like .... you know who.

11. I'm not calling him a spoiler
I'm just analyzing my take on it. Just out of curiosity, does Edwards stand a chance in your state?

14. Edwards possibly stands a chance as it is in the south and trending blue.
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 04:02 PM by davidwparker
I've heard people here saying who they would vote for, but Hillary, no. Biden would be another possibility of carrying the state.

For the spoiler, that was just a general comment. I was thinking a couple of thoughts and that reminded me of why some people choose not to vote for the candidate nominated by the party. I would like to someday see a woman president. I could get behind Senator Boxer in a heartbeat.

on edit: spelling

16. Which Republicans vote for a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, anti-NRA, anti-death penalty, pot-smoke
inhaling Jewish "bachelor" from New York City?

Have you ever MET a Republican?

Bloomberg is somewhere slightly right of Hillary and left of Bill Richardson.
