Poll question: DU Primary Poll -- 2/23/04
If you cannot vote because your state's primary has already been held, or you are unable to vote due to age, felony conviction, mental incapacity, or status as a non-citizen, please vote for the candidate of your choice anyway! :)

1. I like what Edwards says but don't think he can carry enough states
to beat Bush.

4. Edwards lacks two things we will need in this election:
1) Experience
2) A military record

With those two things, Bush* can be hammered - hard. Without them, we lose two important trump cards.

Personally, I like Edwards and think he would make a great president. I just feel Kerry is more suited for a campaign this year.

5. A "military record" is totally irrelevant.
Bush and Kerry got us into the Iraq war!

Big Dog had no such record and he was better than Poppy Bush and Bob Dole.

We probably need someone that understands that the military is too blunt an instrument to be used against terrorism.

7. You don't need a military record to beat Bush.
We did not need those qualities to beat the first Bush.

8. We may not need one...
but it will make things a lot easier.

Clinton v. Bush in 1992 is a whole different situation than today. Face the facts: the only thing Shrubbie has going for him is the perception that he's a good "war prezident". KKKarl Rove is going to hammer home the ONE perceived strength of his pathetic excuse for a candidate, unless we can counter it with a strength in our candidate. Kerry's experience is huge.

27. And 9/11 hadn't happened either
We need someone who can restore our standing in the international community. Edwards can't do that. Hell, I'm from the South and I can't understand his accent half the time. I'm just saying...

14. I disagree
Edwards served on the intelligence committee, and has traveled to countries like Afghanistan AND met with their leaders.

6. I disagree.
With Edwards, we have a good shot at capturing key swing states: North and South Caroline (23), Arizona (10), New Hampshire (4), Tennessee (11), West Virgina (5), and Ohio (20). We also can hold onto Mew Mexico (5), Oregon (7), and Florida (25).

15. The Carolinas arn't swing states
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 06:47 PM by mot78
And, sadly, I've heard that Edwards job approval was heading down when he announced he wouldn't run for reelectio, so I don't think he'll carry either one of the Carolinas.

28. You heard wrong. His numbers go up.
Edwards' N.C. support up
January 10, 2004   Democrats in North Carolina are far more accepting of Sen. John Edwards' presidential bid, but he has made no progress convincing home-state Republicans that he should replace President Bush, according to a new poll commissioned by The News & Observer. The poll, taken less than two weeks before Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucus, found that a majority of North Carolinians -- 55 percent -- approve of Edwards' White House bid, compared with 39 percent when he launched his candidacy a year ago.

3. Dean is not a write-in in the primaries
His name is still on the ballot and, although he is not actively campaigning, he is still in the race for delegates. You should change your poll wording to reflect this.

29. They're all REAL primaries
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 11:18 PM by Scoopie
Come on, Deb... that sounded a bit elitist.

I agree there are problems with the system, but Tennessee or Virginia or New Hampshire or Arizona or wherever have "real" primaries. I think we should do away with caucuses, personally.

31. You're right
Clark and Dean are both on the ballot in most of those states - no need to write either of them in. The poll should be changed.
