Green Party Enters Presidential Race
(Atlanta, Georgia) Former Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney, who was ousted from office last year after a headline-grabbing scuffle with a Capitol Hill police officer, has decided to seek the presidency - as a Green Party candidate.

In a video posted on the Internet on Tuesday, McKinney criticized the war in Iraq and complained about Democrats and Republicans, saying both parties are beholden to corrupt corporate interests. She called the Green Party "my new political home."

McKinney, 52, registered to vote in California after a group called Run! Cynthia! Run! began drafting her as the Green Party's candidate there. Since then, she had made campaign appearances in Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

In the more than seven-minute video first posted on her Web site on Sunday, then on YouTube on Tuesday, McKinney had particularly harsh words for her former party.

15. If I was President and given Hugo Chavez-like powers to rule by decree...
...then banning the Green Party would be the second thing I'd do, after putting Ralph Nader in jail, for the sake of national security.

If Hillary gets the nod we will have:

Someone who voted for the bankruptcy sham
Someone for expanding NAFTA
Someone who voted for Iraq and Iran (Apparently George Bush was cagey enough to trick her)
Someone who is a corporatist

...

As mush as I loath Bush I don't fault Nader for him being there, sure mathematically he made the election close enough to steal but it was Gores to lose and he punted it..

19. Oh for the love of reason. If Edwards gets the nom
we will have someone who:

co-sponsored the IWR, and advocated going straight to war.
Voted to give permanent Normal Trade Relations status to China
invested in and worked for a hedge fund that foreclosed on NOLA Katrina victims.
voted for Yucca Mountain
advocates expanding energy from coal
voted for a bad bankruptcy bill.

And I could do one of these little hit jobs on all the candidates- with ease.

13. If Democrats were worth spit, the Greens would be no threat.
Too bad most Democrats aren't worth spit, ehh?

22. I support those politicians (including Democrats) who are worth spit.
(Important hint: "your" is a possessive; "you're" is the
contraction of "you are" that you were looking for.)

In any case, my best guess is that she doesn't get the nomination anyway.

25. I would agree that we aren't a threat
and I do not believe that the Green party goal is to be a threat to progressives. Quite the opposite, in fact. But do doubt McKinney will get some votes that might otherwise have been "forced" to the Democratic presidential candidate. How many progressive voters she pulls away from you will depend on who the Democratic and Republican nominees are, and how McKinney runs her campaign.

and disgruntled former Dems need a candidate, too. I applaud anyone who is willing and courageous enough to throw their hat into the ring, regardless of party affiliation.

Cynthia McKinney certainly faces an uphill battle and a lot of attacks from her former party. She's been sailing against the wind for years, is no fool, and knows what she's up against. It's likely a losing battle, but she's probably a good choice for the Green Party's nominee.

Besides, if we have a black man and a female running for president, why *not* a BLACK FEMALE?
