SurveyUSA SC poll: Clinton 41, Obama 39, Edwards 17 (Edwards up 6)

SC DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY -- Obama & Clinton Tied; Edwards on the Move: In a Democratic Presidential Primary in South Carolina today, 12/19/07, 38 days to the vote, Barack Obama has caught Hillary Clinton and the two are now effectively tied, according to this latest SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for WCSC-TV Charleston and WSPA-TV Greenville. Clinton is at 41% today, Obama 39%, within the survey's 4.5 percent margin of sampling error. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released last week, neither Clinton nor Obama has momentum. Only John Edwards does. Edwards is up from 11% to 17%, week-on-week, and shows specific gains among white voters, where Clinton is down 5 points to 46% and Edwards is up 9 points to 32%; and among male voters, where Obama is down 5 points to 48% and Edwards is up 7 points to 21%. SC Democratic Primary voters say the Economy is the issue they want the next President to focus on ahead of all others, and on that issue, Obama and Clinton have traded places, Clinton down 18 points to 38%, Obama up 17 points to 43%. Obama gets 57% of the black vote, Clinton gets 37%. Clinton is ahead by 25 among the oldest voters. Obama is ahead by 22 points among the youngest, and least predictable, voters.

Filtering: 2,250 South Carolina adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 12/17/07 and 12/18/07. Of them, 1,926 were registered to vote. Of them, 496 were identified by SurveyUSA as likely to vote in the 01/26/08 Democratic Primary.
