Did Obama really say this?!
"I'd use Arnold in my cabinet"

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/12/obama-says-hed.html">abcnews.com:Obama Says He'd Consider Arnold For His Cabinet

Just what we fuckin' need, another "compromise" candidate. If this is true, and Obama becomes the candidate, why do we need a Democratic Party at all.

2. Like this is surprising?
Obama has already pandered to anti-gay bigots by featuring an "ex-gay" clown at his campaign event in South Carolina

6. NO, he did not say that
I didn't see the phrase "I'd use Arnold in my cabinet" anywhere in the linked piece.

If I missed it, please point it out. Thanks.

Obama Says He'd Consider Arnold For His Cabinet
Share December 20, 2007 8:29 AM

ABC's Sunlen Miller Reports: Barack Obama has often said he'd consider putting Repbulicans in his cabinet and even bandied about names like Sens. Dick Lugar and Chuck Hagel. He's a added a new name to the list of possible Republicans cabinet members - Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Obama regularly says he would look to Republicans to fill out his cabinet if he was elected, but at a town hall event in Manchester, N.H., he was pushed to name names.
“It’s premature for me to start announcing my cabinet. I mean, I’m pretty confident. but I’m not all that confident. We still got a long way to go,” Obama said.

But then the GOP names started to flow.

Sen. Dick Lugar: “He’s a Republicans who I worked with on issues of arms control, wonderful guy. He is somebody I think embodies the tradition of a bipartisan foreign policy that is sensible, that is not ideological, that is based on the idea that we have to have some humility and restraint in terms of our ability to project power around the world,” Obama said about his Senate colleague.

Sen. Chuck Hagel: “A Vietnam vet, similar approach and somebody I respect in a similar fashion,” Obama added.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: “What (he’s) doing on climate change in California is very important and significant. There are things I don't agree with him on, but he's taken leadership on a very difficult issue and we haven't seen that kind of leadership in Washington," Obama said of the California governor.

One Republican that likely Obama won’t consider? Mitt Romney.

In answering a question on immigration, Obama said it would be impossible to lock all the illegal immigrants up, even if he wanted to.

“We'd clear out some of the prisons to make room for somebody who's a housekeeper at Mitt Romney's house,” he joked. “(He’s) an example of somebody who, 'Oh, we gotta be real tough. But my lawn, you know, is important.' "

17. The OP offers a sentence in quotes, and asks if Obama said it
We have to take quotation marks seriously around here.

As to whether Obama expressed a willingness to consider someone like Ahnold... sure. But he didn't say what is in quotes in the OP.

7. No, what he said was this:
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: “What (he’s) doing on climate change in California is very important and significant. There are things I don't agree with him on, but he's taken leadership on a very difficult issue and we haven't seen that kind of leadership in Washington," Obama said of the California governor.

There is no "I'd use Arnold in my cabinet" there.

9. Saying one would put a generic Republic in the cabinet is one thing.
Believe it or not, folks, there are some decent Republicans out there, and putting such a person in a minor cabinet position might not be a bad idea, assuming it was the type of Republican who could work with a progressive administration. Olympia Snow, for instance, would be a possibility who would free up another seat in the Senate which looks as though it will be blue once she steps aside.

On the other hand the Arnold and Colin Powell are too much a part of the dark side to be allowed into a Democratic administration. To even suggest taking either of them is pandering of the worst sort.

18. No he didn't,
I was sitting ten feet from Sen. Obama last night.

He declined to speculate on who would serve in his cabinet, saying, correctly, that it is way too early for that sort of a discussion.

He did go on to point out that there are Republican leaders who he respects and who he thinks are capable of working across party lines in a cooperative manner. He cited his work with Lugar on the Lugar-Obama nonproliferation legislation, and also praised Chuck Hagel and Arnorld as Republicans who are willing to break with the party line when they think it is the right thing to do.

But you can go on living in your weird little dream land...

21. The OP mis-quotes Obama. Obama says he'd consider. The OP claims he said he'd USE them.
I missed it too when I first read it. There is still plenty to quibble about with Arnold, but in this case the OP mis-quoted Obama.

Perhaps, with several more years of ecperience, Obama will stop putting his foot in his mouth.

The OP made the quote up.

I doubt anyone talked to Ahnold about this. And Bush Sr. said no F'n way to Hillary. Candidates shouldn't make these pronouncements if they don't have the person on board.
