Students in Indianola, Iowa .... "Rock the Vote"

Des Moines Register

Voting advocates tell Indianola students to rock their caucus

(Indianola High School - 400 juniors and seniors vouched for their favorite candidates)

- - Rock the Vote - -

"We want our kids to know and understand the caucus program so they're not apprehensive about going into the process", said Bob Young, a government teacher at Indianola High School.

Most high school juniors and seniors will be old enough to vote in the 2008 presidential elections, and are also eligible to participate in the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3, Young said.

AT&T, Rock the Vote and Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro also attended the mock caucus this morning to announce a national wireless initiative to engage young people in politics.

Results of Mock Caucus:

Obama - 136 votes
Edwards & Richardson tied at #2 with 40 votes each
Hillary Clinton received 4 votes

On the Re-thug side.. Huckabee won with 76 votes, followed by McCain with 22.

2. I'm not sure I agree with that Gov't teacher that "most juniors can vote in '08"

... unless that high school has a lot of kids repeating a grade..

Aren't juniors typically 16 to 17?

Seniors I can see.. but Juniors??

3. This is great! Nothing like participating at that age to hopefully
encourage more politically aware adults.
