I want to thank everyone who joined DU to tell me about Nader.
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who joined DU in the past few days to make sure I got the picture about how great Nader is.

I realize you're so passionate about your convictions that you're going to wade right into DU and start telling it like it is, because we might not have heard about him. This is reflected in how little DU folks read the news.

I also want to say hey, because you're not going to be around long.

At some point here, if history is any lesson, we're going to have a nominee. From the Democratic Party. And unless I'm reading the data wrong, it's not going to be Nader.

What's that mean for you, you who have spent a whole weekend being passionate about something? Well, you're going to start getting censored. Yep. Your speech rights are going to get stepped on, because you're going to be praising an opponent of the Democratic Party. (The "D" in DU, btw.)

You're going to get frustrated. And you're going to quit coming here. Or maybe you'll lose it, call someone (maybe a mod) a racial epithet, or something else you really don't mean, and get tombstoned.

Either way, I just wanted to tell you how bad that is for you.

You're going to miss out on a lot here at DU. Interestingly, we have a bunch of forums that cover a lot of ground. We have posters who have been passionate about things for two weeks and even longer! Amazingly, there are folks here who are actually experts on stuff. And me, I post some dang funny polls.

Anyhow, I'm going long on this. I just wanted to say thanks for coming in, and I'm sorry you're going to miss all the other stuff.
:hi:

1. And there might actually be people here
That can discuss Nader without marching orders from the DLC defining who and what is "Democratic".

Now that Dean is out, without Nader, seems like there wouldn't be much worth discussing.

9. What does Democratic in DU refer to?
Doesn't it refer to the Democratic Party? If so why would we want this to become a forum for people who don't like the Democratic Party and what it to be destroyed?

I mean if we are going to let people in to support Nader and defame our candidate, why not let Republicans in to support Bush and defame our candidate? Is there any difference?

Let me personally say that I would have little problem letting Naderites and Republicans in; I like discussion, but I can appreciate that the decision has been made to keep Republicans out; and I assume that those who made that decision considerd carefully and made the right call from their vantage point.

14. I take no "marching orders." Nothing to discuss? Ever hear of Bush?
Hope you have a nice, comfy shelter and lots of food stored up. You will need it in a second Bush term, which seems to bother you not at all. With all due respect, enjoy. The rest of us find something here "worth discussing."

2. Thanks, Robb... for putting this weekends bombardment of Nader
posts in perspective, and with humor! And, yes, as you note, many are from newcomers. I guess if there is any upside to the thousands of duplicative posts on Nader, it must be that there's little room left for nasty posts against any of the other current or past candidates.

4. hurrah for the return of sanity
I dont come here for fair and balanced anything. I come for the good solid partisanship. I try to look on the bright side and see what possible good can come from a nader run, but those are all in the realm of how he can help the democrat win. this time around he may do more good than harm - i hope. But I'm kind of sick of hearing about him here already.

8. So this place will become an on-line pep rally.
Sort of a group circle-jerk. That's to be expected. It is the reason for its existance. :hi:
