I need a civics lesson - is there nothing that Congress can do to
stop this administrations juggernaut to roll over our civil liberties, our laws, the FCC ruling, etc, etc, etc? Does the Constitution provide no safety measures? And if not, why has it taken so long for an administration to do this?

2. I agree - and as time passes, I fear even that wouldn't be in time to stop
the continuing assault on us.

3. It takes a united opposition party
The Republicans (loyalists, whigs, whoever) are always united against anybody who isn't WASP like them. Everybody else, not so much. I don't know what the divides really are right now, and unfortunately, nobody's talking. Mudcat is with Edwards, and yet Mudcat is one of the biggest pains in the ass on most liberal issues.

4. They still can file to arrest bush and cheny some way.
There has to be a way. And if they wanted to they could use the Inherent contempt citation against some of the offenders. That way the DOJ can do nothing about it. Just for the record I would arrest rove and bolton and miers and gonzales. I'd lock their asses in the basement of the congress where, they would be locked up, until after new years.

5. the myth of instant inherent contempt lives on.
takes a floor vote. The Senate is effectively 50-50 when you take Lieberman into consideration. You do know who breaks a tie, even if they got all the dems and Bernie to vote for it, right?

6. sure they can ...
Congress can not pass a funding bill for the war or for any of the deparments which it considers doing extra-constitutional work.
You just need a simple majority to not pass a funding bill (or even 41 votes in senate if you chose to filibuster funding bill).

Remember, Congress controls the purse.
