A gentle reminder of forum rules...
LET'S PLEASE STOP BASHING DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES....Thank you!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/forums/rules_detailed.html

Who is Welcome on Democratic Underground, and Who is Not

Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office.

Democratic Candidates and the Democratic Party

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.
You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.
Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party.

1. The problem, of course, is in interpretation. To some, nothing they say is to be considered bashing
Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 11:45 AM by TwilightZone
...and everything is just "constructive criticism."

3. I'm sitting on a story about Chris Dodd, angel dust, and sex with aliens, and
you post this admonishment about forum decorum?!

Damn. I can't catch a break.

5. No one is a "Democratic Party nominee" for the general election. This is still a primary.
Note: ...may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate ---"other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates"

7. "Echoing the tone of our political opponents" is definitely abused here
Thankfully for the "ignore" feature, I can actually see policy, positions and issues discussed :D

9. You could say then that anything that is not good about any dems can't be said here.
Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 12:32 PM by L0oniX
I don't think that is the intention of the rules. Where does the freedom of speech stop here? Tone can be widely interpreted.

10. Positive, not Negative
Primary or not, supporters of a particular candidate should say what is GOOD about their candidate rather than what's BAD about others.

That's the way politics used to be.

18. Politics has never been that way at the Presidential level
What country are you referring to? Not the U.S.

8. Yeah. I don't interpret the rules to mean "Thou shalt never say anything negative
about ANY Democrat in office or running for office."

I interpret them to mean:

1. If there are two candidates on a ballot, one Republican and one Democrat, don't criticize the Democrat.

2. If there are a group of Republican candidates for President and a group of Democratic candidates, don't spend all your time criticizing the Democrats.

3. Don't use this forum to repeat vague anti-Democrat talking points from Republicans.

4. Don't use it to push minority parties unless it's to promote a candidate who has no Dem opponent (i.e., where the alternative is electing a Republican or another minority party candidate you do not support).

5. Are you permitted to say the Democratic Party has problems or you dislike the actions of some of its members/office holders/candidates? Yes. Are you permitted to advocate that it be entirely done away with, or to proclaim that even the Republicans are better than this? No.

6. Are you permitted to say you prefer this Democratic candidate to that one? Yes. Are you permitted to say that of a group of Democratic candidates, there are some, or one, you dislike, and why? Yes.

And there will not be one until August 28, 2008.

12. It's not going to happen until after the primary. If you see anything offensive
use the alert option on the bottom left of each post.

Welcome to DU. It's going to be rough sailing around here until February. Just the nature of the beast.
