Boston Globe Endorses Senator Barack Obama
They also endorsed McCain

The board wrote that Obama, the Illinois Democrat, fulfills America's need for "a president with an intuitive sense of the wider world,'' and that McCain, the Arizona Republican, ''has done more than his share to transcend partisanship and promote an honest discussion of the problems facing the United States.''

The newspaper released early excerpts of its McCain and Obama endorsements, which will be published in full in Sunday's Globe and on Boston.com. The endorsements followed in-depth interviews with the presidential contenders.

Of Obama, the editorial board wrote that his diverse and international life experience was a plus. "The most sobering challenges that face this country — terrorism, climate change, disease pandemics — are global,'' the board wrote. "America needs a president with an intuitive sense of the wider world, with all its perils and opportunities. Barack Obama has this understanding at his core.''

The board, noting that Obama would be the country's first post-Baby Boom president if elected, addressed his relative lack of Washington experience compared to several of his Democratic rivals. ''It is true that all the other Democratic contenders have more conventional resumes, and have spent more time in Washington,'' the board wrote. "But that exposure has tended to give them a sense of government’s constraints. Obama is more open to its possibilities.''

3. Romney, Romney, Romney, hmmm, let me think.......
the name is vaguely familiar.

Oh, now I've got it it! He claimed he was our governor once upon a time when he was touring the country bashing the bay state.

Odd duck - supposedly tied his dog to the top of a car on a vacation trip........

13. Swept up by the good looks, maybe? He was an empty suit
that used the job to enhance his resume for a presidential run, at our expense.

I'll be sure to pick up a copy of Sundays paper. That write-up could have quite a bit of impact here.

25. The endorsement is terrific because it rebuffs every single anti-Obama talking point emphatically
I'm going to use it the next time I phone bank, which is tomorrow. The Boston Globe is no small potato endorsement and will mean something in New Hampshire.

26. With this, I would guess Obama will be ahead in NH
Obama is already the odds-on favorite in Iowa, and this is likely to be the case even if the DMR (Des Moines Register -- this is how it's being referred to in the MSM) endorses someone else. Good chance that if the DMR doesn't endorse Obama, they might just say that there are a number of good candidates but they don't pick just one (ie "no endorsement").

I live in W Mass (Springfield), and remember exactly ZERO major positive things about Gov Romney. It just seems that to the extent possible, we get a repug gov because the state is so overwhelmingly Democratic. The powers that pee like to keep a lid on the state, if possible. Most of the Democratic governors before Patrick were people like Dukakis, or worse yet, Ed King, who aren't interested in rocking the boat even a little. Patrick is a mild reformer, which is about as good as it's gotten for a LONG time.

As for NH, if it was neck and neck before, the Globe endorsement should give Obama the edge. The thing is that even with Iowa, NH, and S Carolina possibly going Obama's way, the front-loading of the primaries is such that it's real hard to go against ingrained political inertia with 20+ states voting on Feb 5. And then there's what would seem sheer idiocy, not allotting delegates to 'disobedient' MI and Fl. But even if that Reid/Pelosi Democratesque decision is reversed at the Convention, candidates like Obama have avoided these arenas (HRC the beneficiary). And those two states will RADICALLY influence publicity in the political and news cycles leading up to Feb 5. In short, these are real hurdles Obama needs to face to get the nomination.

One thought is that since 527 and other such orgs aren't linked to the campaign, they could focus a lot of energy in MI and FL for Obama, so at least he runs respectably well in those locales. The problem of 'tsunami Tuesday or TT' remains, and is something for Obama DUers to focus on -- maybe building up good networks over the web of people in the TT states.

At any rate, Obama in my arrogant opinion would win in Nov 08 more easily than any of the other leading Democrats.

33. What a pathetic endorsement by the Boston Globe
"an intuitive sense of the wider world". What tF does that even mean? And as if it's not ridiculous enough on its face, it's even moreso in contrast to Hillary who is probably about 100x better-traveled than Obama ever will be. Obama has an "intuitive sense" of what's good for Obama, and little else. It comes through in everything he says and does, or doesn't do if you're counting his votes in Illinois and the Senate.

Better yet, this rationalization - 'those with more experience are more constrained'. Unreal. Does that apply to professionals in all fields, or is it just for the Presidency of the US, one of the most complex and demanding jobs in the world?

So here we have the Boston Globe, now reducing itself to mystical presumptions of 'intuitive senses' of the 'wider world' and inane claims that experience is 'constraining', trying vainly to turn Obama's major failings into virtues in order to find something with which to endorse the weakest candidate in the Democratic field.

It doesn't get much more through-the-looking-glass than this.
