More trouble for Bush - The coming indictments in the Plame investigation
I'm not familiar with this source, antiwar.com ....

Could this be the beginning of the end for Bush/Cheney?

The War Party's Waterloo
Get out the dip and chips, pull up a chair – and let the show trial begin!

by Justin Raimondo

The top two stories on yesterday's front page heralded an event long anticipated in my various columns on the subject: the investigation into the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame – which may soon be dubbed Scooter-gate – is about to morph into a scandal that could bring down the roof on this administration, and strike a knock-out blow to the War Party. .

Federal prosecutors are hot on the trail of a series of crimes that may involve more than just the two primary suspects first identified by UPI's Richard Sale – Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the Vice President's chief of staff, and John Hannah, the VP's Middle East policy wonk. As the Antiwar.com staff got ready to put up Tuesday's front page, Matt Drudge had a lead-in to the story that read:

"Prosecutors conduct series of meetings described as 'tense, combative'... Armed with handwritten White House notes, detailed cell phone logs, e-mails between presidential aides and reporters, prosecutors demand explanations of conversations... Developing..."

Presidential aides? Libby is officially an Assistant to the President, but the use of the plural is … intriguing. Just how many neocons nested in the very heart of our government are going to be frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs? I sure hope they show it on television!

1. It sounds hopeful
But as long it's coming from the left-wing press, it's like a tree falling in the woods. I want to see articles about this coming from the mainstream press before I get my hopes up.

3. I always thought he was left-wing, too.
But his bio on that page says he's a libertarian. I've mostly come across his articles in the Asia Times, so didn't know his resume.

Anyway, this article is a good summary of the case against the neo-cons. I hope he's right about a trial coming soon (and wonder who's letting that happen). Raimondo talks about deeper levels of neo-cons throughout the govt. One presumes there are levels and levels of anti-neocons, too?

2. What really matters is if the CIA...
If the CIA really wants to protect other agents from the same kind of outting Plame got, then you'd best believe that someone will go down hard. If not....well it would hve been over already.

Just imagine what it must have been like pouring over all those WH emails and notes.... with all the evil that squats in that WH there had to be plenty of damaging evidence that the CIA now is privvy too.
Get Those Bush Bastards!!

4. Very interesting post tonight from Josh Marshall on Plame investigation...

(February 22, 2004 -- 10:39 AM EDT // link // print)

Here are some questions that might be very worthwhile to pose to Scott McClellan tomorrow morning.

The president has instructed members of the White House staff (everyone in the Executive Office of the President) to cooperate fully with the Plame investigation. Does that order to cooperate amount to a bar on White House employees taking the fifth with investigators?

Does the president find it acceptable for members of his staff to invoke their fifth amendment rights in a criminal investigation and still remain on the payroll?

Does the president know whether members of his staff have invoked their right against self-incrimination in the Plame investigation?

5. That would be nice.
But I think it is still going to be up to us, the voters, to swing the ax at his head come November.

6. Oh absolutely. It would just be nice to have this scandal in the news
and fresh in the minds of voters before November. Just one more nail in the coffin.

7. Hopes, dreams and wishes do come true!
I will have my Tivo set overheating recording these. We must all do so, because you know they will change history if they can, the next time they come back to power. We must be ready to keep them down and out for all time and TRUTH TO POWER is all that works!

9. Dangerous
I've been afraid they would tag Scooter and use it as a way to unload Cheney and replace him with someone less sinister. Remember how Bush used the Trent Lott business to install his own guy in the Senate.

But if it's a spectacle, especially a long-lasting spectacle, it'll be a win.
