1. The nays and "present"s are interesting.
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 10:43 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Of the names I recognize, a number of black & jewish reps. Good for them.

This is one case where a "present" vote is appropriate -- when the bill is so wrong it doesn't properly belong before the body.

RESOLUTION
Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith.

Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other cultures and nationalities, is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and the world;

Whereas there are approximately 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, making Christianity the religion of over three-fourths of the American population;

Whereas there are approximately 2,000,000,000 Christians throughout the world, making Christianity the largest religion in the world and the religion of about one-third of the world population;

Whereas Christians identify themselves as those who believe in the salvation from sin offered to them through the sacrifice of their savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and who, out of gratitude for the gift of salvation, commit themselves to living their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible;

Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization;

Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its roots in Christianity;

Whereas on December 25 of each calendar year, American Christians observe Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of their savior, Jesus Christ;

Whereas for Christians, Christmas is celebrated as a recognition of God's redemption, mercy, and Grace; and

Whereas many Christians and non-Christians throughout the United States and the rest of the world, celebrate Christmas as a time to serve others: Now, therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;

(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;

(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;

(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;

(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and

(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world.

36. Kucinich voted for it?
Edited on Wed Dec-12-07 12:38 AM by mac2
He's a Catholic and wants them to rule? I have not trusted Kucinich since the Iowa campaign for President in 2004. A lot of his workers were in tears because the war issue was not allowed on the floor or in the discussion. He gave his votes to Edwards and withdrew. He silenced his delegates.

It's easy to be a Presidential candidate who says what we want to hear...but not standing for the Constitution when it is threatened by his own religion is unbelievable. Where is the importance of any other religious groups? That's what democracy is about. The ability to worship who and where one wants. It is also OK to have no belief one time or another...or not at all. Where is Martin Luther anyway?

"Religion is the opium of the people." Karl Marx. Now who wants us silenced and obedient?

19. But isn't democracy about majority rule?
;)

The hopi, reportedly, upon being told about the American system of government, were astonished. "But what about the disaffected minority?" they asked. For them, democracy meant that ALL voices were heard, and all positions were respected.

Just because I was baptized and confirmed and all that crap... even though I have not been to church in 20 years and no longer believe anything they tried to brainwash me into believing. Wonder exactly how they came up with their 225,000,000 figure.

Now as I was saying, I'd rather prevent the war on Iran than the "war on Christmas". It's funny how little some people care about shitty votes that have actually KILLED people, yet waste time worrying about useless crap like this, or whatever Madonna is doing this week.

35. Importance to Christians Xmas?
Is this how they waste their time when America is on it's knees and there are hungry in the streets? Old and young dying from lack of health care? Tainted food and other products from China, etc.? Our own dying on foreign soil because of lies? People dying because of this administrations secret activities all over the world? Nuclear war at our door step?

The Christian group who are MOST IMPORTANT to the President are Catholics. He has five of them on the Supreme Court. Which religious organization wants this bill on the books? Are they pushing toward a state religion...a theocracy? Make no mistake Bush is using every religious group to get what he wants (except for a few Protestant ones). It is religious cronyism. He uses our money to pay them off.

CSPAN has the Catholic clergy lecturing us women all the time. They aren't my religion so I don't approve but CSPAN takes my cable dollars to enhance a religious group anyway. Isn't CSPAN for government?

I am fed up. This gal will not go to any Christian church if they think it is OK to ruin my democracy and rob my wallet for their own power and wealth. The world is my church with God in it. I have no need of a clergy or building. Do not lecture me about any politician or support one. Where is the Jesus like man to throw them out of the "Democracy Temple" (Congress)?

Important? DA!!
