Edwards in Ohio
I just returned from a John Edwards stop at the Ohio State University Student Union. It was a very enthusiastic overflow crowd. We (me and my nephews) ended up in an overflow auditorium where we had to watch his speech on a big screen but he came to speak to us after his main speech.

I always thought Clinton was a masterful campaigner but I really think Edwards outdoes Clinton. After seeing him today, I have decided to cast my vote for him in the primary on March 2nd. What struck me about him were two things. First of all his message was not entirely devoted to what was wrong with the present administration but he has a vision which he articulates very well with much passion. I was also struck by two issues he spoke of today which we aren't hearing much about and that is the poor in this country and race relations. Although the crowd was not very diverse, the message was well received.

1. He was in Cleveland last night
At 9 o'clock on a Saturday night we had an overflow crowd. If he was any smoother they'd call him SILK.

2. Smooth He Is....
...I think if "America" knew him -- he'd have it locked up.

6. Actually, one name I've heard him called is The Silk Assassin.
Underestimated all his life.

15. I love it. Gives me some optimism here.
We still have over a week. It could happen.

3. Thanks for the report!
...and thanks for your vote. :hi:

Early in the campaign, I thought Edwards was wasting time talking about poverty and race relations in his speeches, but I see it now as something he really cares about and part of a message he wants to spread even if he doesn't win the nomination.

Like I tell people when I'm phone-banking, encourage your friends and family to cast their votes for Edwards too!

9. Edwards is far more electable than the flip-flopping and flawed Kerry
In addition to all that, Edwards has something that Kerry severely lacks: likability.

12. Edwards is much better speaker.
Kerry is boring when he speaks, and Edwards is attracting bigger crowds everyday.

14. Which is why
Kerry won't debate him unless he absolutely has to.

5. I grew up in Dayton and I really think Edwards has a lot of appeal in OH.
I live in Washington DC now and have seen Edwards speak in MD and VA. He is incredible- I agree.

I also really like the way he appeals to our idealism and the way he talks about poverty and race in moral terms. To me this shows real character. It also means he can inspire a generation of Democrats in the same way Ronald Reagan inspired a generation of Republicans.

Thanks for your post. And thanks for supporting Edwards. Ohio is a key state.

Have you gone to his website to donate? Edwards is the first candidate I have contributed too and I am a struggling graduate student.

8. That was the first thing about him that struck me
and my husband. On numerous occassions, we have sighed and said, "He is SO Clinton..."

It makes me miss the big dog, ya know?

11. I'm sighing with you two. I wonder what role Bill C. will have once
the nominee is chosen? They damn well better show him more respect than he was given in 2000.

16. He's better than Clinton.
Clinton's message was not as populist as Edwards's is, and don't get me started on trade. Edwards is Clinton with a spine.
