Civil Rights Icon Calls Obama Too Young, Bill Clinton is every bit as black as Barack
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071208/D8TDI1B00.html

ATLANTA (AP) - Civil rights icon Andrew Young says Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is too young and lacks the support network to ascend to the White House.

In a media interview posted online, Young also quipped that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton has her husband behind her, and that "Bill is every bit as black as Barack."

"He's probably gone with more black women than Barack," Young said of former President Clinton, drawing laughter from a live television audience. Young, 75, was quick to follow his comment on Bill Clinton with the disclaimer, "I'm clowning."

Young, a former United Nations ambassador and lieutenant of Martin Luther King, Jr., made the comments at an appearance at "Newsmakers Live," an urban media forum that interviews prominent Atlanta personalities and political figures.

4. Exactly! I'm still shocked at the people out there, who think that we in the African-American
community are a monolithic group. We are not monolithic.

13. Hello! Obama supporter checking
in.

Yes, you are so right, we don't all look alike or think alike ~that's what makes us wonderful.

The one thing we have done is to be the backbone and the soul of the Democratic Party.

We have been the ones that had our votes taken from us and our voices stilled.

Yet we still RISE!

15. I do agree with you, that we have ben the backbone of the Party
In fact, we've been the heart and soul and the conscience of the Party (especially the Congressional Black Caucus, which always manages to rise to the occassion).

However, I also think that we need to call the Democratic Party to account, when it displays political cowardice.

That's why I left the Democratic Party in January 2005 and became a registered Independent. I was so discouraged after only ONE Senator (Barbara Boxer) agreed to sign on to the House's objection of the certification of the Ohio electors.

By leaving the Democratic Party, I was trying to send them a message.

16. Good for you on sending them a message but
they don't understand messages very well.

It is so disappointing, the best we can hope for is that you will participate in the Election as a Democrat.

5. The polls dispute your point
Most of the comments come from what he said, not that he's supporting HRC. Most of the CBC are supporting HRC.

8. Bill Clinton feels the pain, but done little else.
I am tired of the Clinton mystique with very little policy to show for it. Closing the books on Bush 1, Iran Contra, allowed drugs to the neighborhoods, and other protections of the Bush record. Would happen again with Bush 2.

Are we electing Bill, or Hillary, as every corporate guy, engaged in global work, has some affinity for Bill. Granted. But it's the corporate connections, which are inevitable, even necessary, are what Bill is about, mostly.

These Bill connections, and the conventional wisdom that the GOP were to have two terms, made it ever so easy for our electeds to sit out the 2004 election, and let Kerry, Dean and Wes Clark pretty much go about unaided. Bill could not find anything suspicious or untoward about Bush's policies or rationale for the war during 2004. (ie not promoting change) The media sent the signal on deregulation, Carville and Begala dissed the 2004 campaign, laying the groundwork.

Kerry has an ease and naturalness with the AA community, but that wasn't enough. Now Obama doesn't have enough of what it takes, however much I find his answers refreshing and with depth. Andrew Young has long since gone corporate in dealing with Africa; some of it well-meaning, but also self-serving. Same for Bill.

It's very hard for a nonincumbent to break through, and that's what we have. Clinton with all his prior connections, making it happen for Hillary. Their time in office may look better by comparison to Bush, but I think we can do better, or at least look freshly at new opportunities.

14. I agree with everything you said
I don't support Hillary. My reply was directed at the sarcasm of the prior poster regarding black support for Obama. It seems that everyone can discuss race regarding Obama's candidacy but as soon as Obama mentions it people scream that he's using the race card.

I have always taken offense at Bill being called the First Black President. Many policies of administration were harmful to African Americans.

I am also tired of Bush/Clinton and think we need a change.

6. Andrew Young...corporate whore
extraordinaire....he stepped down from whoring for Wal Mart after making disparaging remarks about Jewish, Arab and Korean store owners....He belongs with fellow former Wal Mart employee, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Instead of whoring for Wal Mart maybe Mr Young should front a venture capitalist firm to encourage black owned businesses in black neighborhoods. Wal Mart certainly doesn't encourage that.

Andrew Young resigns from Wal-Mart group
Civil rights leader hired to burnish retailer's image under fire for remarks

snip

In the Sentinel interview, Young was asked about whether he was concerned Wal-Mart causes smaller, mom-and-pop stores to close.

"Well, I think they should; they ran the `mom and pop' stores out of my neighborhood," the paper quoted Young as saying. "But you see, those are the people who have been overcharging us selling us stale bread and bad meat and wilted vegetables. And they sold out and moved to Florida. I think they've ripped off our communities enough. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it's Arabs; very few black people own these stores."

7. When prominent blacks do "the black stuff," they're accused of being "race pimps"
When they move into corporate America - like John Edwards did, for example - they're "corporate whores."

A no-win situation.

There are many ways that black folk can make a difference. "Fronting" a firm is not the only way. Some agitate from outside. Some work from the inside. Andrew Young believed that he could have an impact on the policies of the companies he deals with by doing the latter. Sadly, whenever someone tries to do that and it doesn't go well, they're attacked.

11. Andy Yound had nothing to say about Hillary's support for war, torture, and loss of civil liberties?
"He's probably gone with more black women than Barack"

There isn't a woman that Bill Clinton did not grope or try to get into her pants. What a role model!

12. Does Andrew Young realize Bill Clinton isn't running this year?
When he yapped "Bill is every bit as black as Barack", exactly what was he trying to get at?

Besides that the ruse is bullshit and frankly embarrassing, maybe Young has taken up his cocaine habit again and his judgment is a little fiendish.

Asshole...

17. "He's probably gone with more black women than Barack,"
and I don't think "to go" is the verb he has in mind here.

You actually think this is a quality performance by a supporter? Run with it.

23. He also said that Hillary is so experienced at "neutralizing the women Bill was going around with"
CNN played the videoclip. Young was actually praising the Clinton "machine" at the time. He thought this was an example of how more fit
Hillary was to run for the presidency than Obama. It was Hillaryous, especially when the CNN host deadpanned, "SO far, no comment from
the Clinton campaign."
