Fighting Over Oprah
You guys are like children...

She endorsed Obama... It's not the end of the world....

As a point of privilege I was watching the event with my friends , Nate and Mary who came to bring over some Christmas gifts... Their solution to who to support in the Obama-Clinton battle is for one to vote for Clinton and the other to vote for Obama...

We all busted a gut when Oprah said "she has voted for Republicans and Democrats." I said I "never voted for a Republican, have you?" and they said NO... Oprah is a celebrity and an entrepreneur...Her responsibilities and sensibilities are different than ours....

Anyway, Obama is extremely charismatic... He might have "it" but I'm sticking with Hillary...

PEACE

1. The childish and petty
attacks and antics from the Clinton supporters is what you should be addressing.

4. I Can't Be Responsible For Them
Hell, I literally don't even know them...

Oprah endorsed Obama... Magic Johnson, arguably one of the greatest basketball players of all time, endorsed Hillary... Some supporters of other candidates started , not only pissing on Magic's endorsement but pissing on Magic himself...

It's stupid...

3. we know Hillary
was once a proud Goldwater girl who wore her little cowgirl outfit in support of Mr. Conservative. I wonder if any other of the dem frontrunners voted for republicans? I didn't think so

Ahhh, she wasn't old enough to vote then.
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 06:18 PM by OKNancy
She was a teenager. Her father was a Republican... but as soon as she was on her own, she changed her outlook.
Of course we all know that.
( btw voting age then was 21 )

8. It is childish, but it's interesting, demographically, don't you think?
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 06:15 PM by Mike03
If the fairly sophisticated people here on DU think this is noteworthy or at least worth disputing, maybe there is something here to evaluate or consider in more detail.

My initial reaction is that I couldn't care less and doubt many people will care at all, but I'm not a TV watcher and I don't have any kind of loyalty to a popular culture figure, so I'm in no position to evaluate the impact of her endorsement.

But I'm interested in what the reaction will be to your post, because I'm more less with you. I don't understand it. But in many respects, I'm an outsider.

9. Ha
When I find that people I admire, Shaquille O'Neal, Magic Johnson, Grant Hill support people I like (Democrats) I feel good... When I find out that people I admire , Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Pat Riley support Rethuglicans I feel bad...

That being said I wouldn't vote for someone I didn't like no matter who endorsed him or her...

10. I am agreeing with your post
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 06:23 PM by Mike03
It doesn't make any difference to me who endorses who, but I AM interested in why people care.

It worries me that people at DU think it matters.

Sorry if my post was unclear.

My interest is more that of a sociologist than an individual voter, if that makes sense.

15. I Understood Your Point -Peace
Celebrity endorsements create a "buzz"... The bigger the celebrity the bigger the "buzz"... The "buzz" creates interest... That's a positive... And we are a celebrity obsessed culture...

11. Me neither
Celebrity endorsements mean nothing to me as far as swaying me one way or the other. I DID like seeing my hero Bruce Springsteen stumping for John Kerry in '04 and when I got a chance to talk to him about it last March I thanked him for all he TRIED to do.

13. I Was Listening To Howard Stern During The 00 Campaign
He had Shaq on...Shaq said he was for Gore...That made me feel good... If he said he was for Bush* I would have liked Shaq a lot less the way I like Peyton Manning a lot less and look at Dan Marino differently...

Shaquille, Marino, Riley, come on you are smarter than that. Shaq is an idiot, Dan and Pat have been arrogant asses their entire adult lives.

21. Shaq Is Cool
Shaq donates tons of dough to charity...When Tim Hardaway said he "hated gay people" Shaq said he would protect a gay team mate... Shaq is also a sheriff...He chased down and arrested a guy who assaulted a gay man in Miami... Riles contributed to Americans Coming Together but lately he has supported Bush*'s Iraq policy... Supporting the troops is cool! He would be crucified if he didn't but he didn't have to extend his support for the troops to Bushco...

Dan Marino... I loved his game but I always suspected he was a Rethuglican...

PEACE

20. What makes you say Riley is a Republican
http://newsmeat.com/sports_political_donations/Pat_Riley.php

He's donated to Penelas for the Senate, and gave to Americans Coming Together.

DIdn't notice any cons on that list.
