Huckabee wanted to isolate AIDS patients
By ANDREW DeMILLO, Associated Press Writer

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk."

As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies.

"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague," Huckabee wrote...

My view:

Those are the ignorant comments of a man who didn't understand what we were dealing with. I think he has a better understanding now. But his comments were still way way out there.

Also from the article: "What people do in the privacy of their own lives as adults is their business," Huckabee said. "If they bring it into the public square and ask me as a taxpayer to support it or to endorse it, then it becomes a matter of public discussion and discourse."

That's liberalism, in a nutshell.

2. I am glad that Huckabee will not allow his religion to influence
his decisions if elected as president. I would laugh but it makes me want to cry.

3. A Huckabee quote on gays in the military
"I agree with the leadership of our military, who believe it is not in the best interest of the armed forces to have homosexuals serving on active duty... I believe to try to legitimize that which is inherently illegitimate would be a disgraceful act of government. I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk."

He claims to be a religious conservative "but not mad about it." To the contrary, he sounds just as hateful and as unChristlike as the rest of his ilk.

8. "His view is surely different now"? In your original post, you even implied
that he's a liberal--are we supposed to admire this scary, phony jackass? I'm asking you a serious question--Huckabee seems to have found some fans here, and although I think he's the most godawful Repub running, I have to wonder why others see him as somehow "nice" or "acceptable".

11. Enough of this
I am not claiming Huckabee is a liberal, I am saying that one quote is a good definition of what liberalism is (or should be) about. No one thinks Huckabee is a liberal.
