Poll question: How many DUers do you have on your "ignore list"?
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 10:01 AM by jefferson_dem
Just curious.

I just baptized my list with its first member (not telling who)...and am feeling kind of relieved.

Sometimes, I'm tempted to "unignore" them, in order to

7. Zero at the moment.
I use it sparingly because even though I don't always agree with someone I can still gleen information from what they say. When I use it it is for a "heat of the moment" problem that threatens my blood pressure or my existence here on DU. After a few days I take them off. I find it easier to just stay out of threads I know will piss me off. :)

10. None. I've never used the DU "ignore" function, I have my own. Here's how it works:
I look to see who's written a post; if it's someone whose opinion doesn't interest me, I don't click on that post. Works like a charm.

12. Zero here
I guess I'm just not around enough. Or maybe, I'm on the ignore list of
so many people, I am off their radar already. But it's just not something
that seems worth bothering with, although there are definitely some people
here I would ignore if they started getting on my case habitually. So far,
they don't seem to think I'm worth the trouble, and on that point, at least,
I agree with them!

Not that being consumed with lonely righteous anger at all who disagree about
anything is exclusively a Republican trait, but if Republicans don't have a monopoly
on that, they are definitely close to cornering the market.

I will empty it after the primaries. When I realize it's hopeless to think a poster will ever do more than disrupt a discussion with incessant nastiness, contribute nothing to a thread but insults and snark, derail rational discourse, fuck 'em, they go on the list. Not having to wade through the trash makes reading more efficient and a lot less stomach-turning. I couldn't care less about missing a few threads as a result. There are supporters of every candidate on my Ignore list, btw, including my own.

And she moves on and off it frequently. Mostly, I use IGNORE as a stop gap for me to not chew her out everytime she attacks someone or me personally. On the other hand, I support her right to be here - I value her overall contribution to discussions more than she would probably understand.

Rather contradictory, but there it is.

Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 10:45 AM by IanDB1
On occasion, someone will post something in GLBT, for example, complaining about ignorance and bigotry in a thread on GD, and all I will see is a bunch of "ignored" posts when I get there.

The DU that I live in is a much smarter and more tolerant place than the one many people see.

I haven't counted, but I think I have between 30-50 people on it (although many are probably tombstoned already).

I just cleaned-out a bunch (but not all) of the deleted profiles. Also found a few tombstones in the list (manic expression, raysr, rman, Ninja Jordan, DoYouEverWonder, etc.)

But it's still around 50 names.

48. Two different lists.
Only three of the most egregious are on "total" ignore both for threads they start and the persistently obnoxious/hateful replies they post.

However, I've got quite a few on "partial" ignore just for the inane or flamebaiting threads they start.

After the primaries are over, I'll clear the list completely and hope we're all on the same team once again.

55. Too many. Nearly all of them Clinton supporters.
I went through the last primary without ignoring anyone. I don't have enough time to worry about supporters of other candidates who are particularly nasty or stupid. If they post a thread I find to be idiotic, or keep arguing with me without saying anything new or thoughtful, I ignore them. It's made this place much, much more pleasant. From the replies I see to all the people on ignore, I'm not missing anything of substance.

70. Only one and only placed on my list in the last week or so
Will probably remove from the list after 01/03. Just couldn't stand the personal attacks and bloviating. I'm certain the poster will disappear under their rock after the primaries. I am not a fan of the ignore list, and can't believe I had to resort to it. But, when the mods are so overloaded w/alerts b/c of the garbage from this race - ignore is the only way to go.

79. 1-2 but I think everyone has ME on their ignore list!
Because I never get responses to my posts. (It's interesting posting here - sort of reminiscent of my straight jacket days in the white padded room when the wall and I became great friends.)

95. Awww!!! Well, you at least got one response. Other than that, I think you either have to say
something really stupid or something really provocative to get responses.

94. I often feel like that. Sometimes I feel like I would rather listen to someone elses BS than my own
mind chatter.

85. None. It seems awfully childish.
The equivalent of a little kid sticking his fingers in his ears and repeatedly saying "I can't hear you."

92. Zero. My philosophy is, if you don't like the heat, don't go in the kitchen. That simple.

93. I held out for a really long time...
I don't really like to censor the board and even though some folks can really irritate, I just move on. However, there is ONE person on my list. I just could not tolerate him/her anymore. Sanctimonious, holier-than-thou, condescending, one-note - EVERY single time. No thanks, buh-bye. At least for a while. I'll probably reinstate this person eventually, but for now, they are my one and only.
