She found it very important to point out that she has great respect for Gen Hayden. Why? Because she has covered the military for the last 20 years. She wants to give him a leash on making the statement about the reason for destroying evidence.

2. What's her name?
She's probably one of the ones who lives at the Pentagon, drifting between coffee messes, looking for fresh donuts...and who never puts a buck in the pot!

5. Notice how she framed her sources in the military as great relationships?
WTF. I was under the impression that a reporter's job is to protect their sources. That mindset gives me the impression that she is doing more than protecting them. She is being social with them.

6. That means she is a "useful tool."
In the military, if you're disseminating information to the press, you always want to have the upper hand. You cultivate "FRIENDLY" reporters and you're civil to the ones who can get shitty, but there are no "relationships" save for the relationship between someone in uniform wanting a point of view broadcast, and a civilian with a notebook who is led to believe they are getting a "scoop."

That's if it's done by the Public Affairs/Information playbooks, at any rate!
