Burma is a good example of a police state. Could we become one? Sure. Are we one now? No.

or in increments? Who decides when it is officially a police state? If it happens in one part of the country and not the rest, will it matter?

4. it can happen almost overnight, but usually it happens

incrementally. And I don't know of any credible expert that thinks it's a police state now. I heard Naomi Wolf on VPR this morning and she expressly said we're not a police state- yet. And it won't happen in one part of the country; a police state is one that's centralized and top down.
