Just got this from the California Democratic Party...
Edited on Fri Dec-07-07 02:57 AM by CaliforniaPeggy
Looks like good news...

Dear xxx,

I wanted to update you on the status of the Electoral College "Steal the State" initiative that Republicans are trying to foist upon our state.

As reported today in the Associated Press and the Sacramento Bee, the Initiative's backers have admitted that they are not able to gather enough signatures to qualify for the June election!

Once again, your work in the grassroots community prevented the Republicans from sneaking this intitiative on the June Ballot.

Whether in June or November, the voters of California will see this initiative as a Republican backdoor attempt to steal the presidency by rigging California’s electoral votes. No matter if or when the voters have their say, this power grab initiative will be defeated.

Sincerely,

SENATOR ART TORRES (RET.)
Chairman

5. LOL!
I thought they had the signatures. I think they're going to keep trying over and over again...isn't there big money behind it...the same guy that headed up the Gov. Davis recall?

11. I don't think most people know exactly what this is about
But they DO know it's Republican shenanigans.

And I think that people in California, at least, have had enough of them.

(Hi Peggy! :hi:)

12. This shows what we can do if we work together
And the various interest groups (particularly Courage Campaign and DFA) have kept this issue front and center. The frame they Rs had hoped for is not working.

Plus it helps to suggest an initiative to break CA into three states , Northeren, Middle, and Southern , helps a lot. Imagine four more Democratic Senators lol.

17. My dear Capn Sunshine...
The time when the R's could have snuck something by us Dems is GONE...

Let's hope they realize it too...

I'm not sure breaking CA into three states would be productive...

It might make things harder to elect all Dem senators...

I don't know...

13. Great news. I gave $ to defeat this.
But the attempt by republicans to change the electoral system within California is legal. I choose to keep the system as is.

18. Thank you, my dear salinen, for your contribution!
I agree, the measure is legal...

Whether it is moral or not is another matter...

If it's to be done, let's do it nationwide...

That would be both legal and moral!

20. How we vote in national
elections should not be decided state by state. Nationwide standards makes sense.

16. I sent another article about this
to my dear friend in Ohio. She said she didn't realize how concerned she was about this until she felt the wave of relief.

What a difference a Democratic Secretary of State makes.

Deborah Bowen wasn't going to let anythning slide by her and the GOP knew it.

I knew when Debra Bowen became our SOS, that things would be better here...

She is one sharp, relentless lady, and I love her!

It's at least the second time...

We will squash them flat!

We have them in our sights, and they know it...
