Biden has moved up
I think Biden is winning me over to the extent that now I put him on #2 on my list. He has done good in the debates and I have been surprised by him.

1. I think he's surprised a lot of us who are now his supporters, so I know what
you mean. He continues to impress me. Every time.

Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 04:25 PM by 1corona4u
I was for Hillary, and I really don't have anything bad to say about her, but for the good of all of us, I changed to Joe. Mostly because Hillary would be fighting the right her entire time in the WH, if she were elected, and we need someone who will be focused soly on this gigantic mess we will be left to clean up after Bush.

Oh, plus a whole lot of other reasons now...Joe's right.

4. Welcome to the Biden camp.
Biden was my number 2 for a long time. But now he has my full support. Joe impresses me more every time I hear him. His avoidance of bashing the other candidates makes them look juvenile and inexperienced.

14. I posted this today, and you're so right...
he does avoid bashing, but does respectfully disagree with some on occasion, but stops short of criticizing them. This particular clip was after the debate with Hillary about the DL's, and Joe was so....diplomatic.

and a real pro when it comes to politics. He knows the bashing doesn't work and is able to criticize without mud slinging.

Welcome to the Biden House.

Let me ask you a quick question...
Did electability play any roll in your decision.

7. electability
I hadn't really thought about that, but I think Biden would certainly have a good shot at winning the general election.

Its mainly his strong debate performances that won me over.

10. I agree that Biden would be electable. He's a good and decent
man and carries no negative baggage of any consequence. I'm still holding out for Gore (probably vainly but a fog is settling over the field.) I'm certainly open to Biden and would gladly vote for him in the general.

11. I agree..
Biden has come into his own and found his stride. He is the perfect foil for Hillary as VP. I can just picture him telling those fat cat Repubs where to get off with their pompous assholery!
The Irish will burn down the City Hall in Killarney having 2 Shamrocks in the WH.

OMG..The Irish vote... just a few of us in the US!

15. Joe Biden certainly showed leadership on the entire issue with Iran.
And that has really impressed me a lot. One of my dearest friends, a solid Democrat, told me this weekend that Biden "has nothing to lose" and so he's being his honest self and that has great appeal to me.

20. i am curious how
if you've look at him closely enough to make him your second choice, you don't make him your first?

What distinct advantage does your candidate hold over him?

I tried to give all the others a fair shake, but I have been a fan of Joe for 20-something years, and one at a time I said "nope - not better than Joe"

Edwards was the last to go, and I'd still not be disappointed in his getting the nod, but Joe - well, "I agree with Joe."

21. Electability is a huge part of my decision
As opposed to some, I'm a real pragmatist right now. We need someone who can easily, DESPITE VOTE MANIPULATION, win the general election. I cannot imagine any republican candidate that would stand a chance against Biden. His skeletons are all out of the closet. He generate real negative reaction from only a few -- many here on DU who are outraged by the new bankruptcy bill. Basically, Biden would be a shoe in for the GE even though he may not be the progressive that so many of us would like.

Joe would be the best president we have seen in long, long, long time. If given the chance, he could the best ever...I think he is just that capable.

PS. And his humor....We'd be laughing with him...not at him. ;-)

24. A president w/integrity and smarts and can work across the aisle.
There was a time in our nation's history when this combination could be expected from our top presidential candidates, but now, interestingly, this becomes the change candidate, one who really does walk the walk. How refreshing that would be. O8)

25. Biden has had several impressive moments.
He won the last two debates (Philly and NPR). There are many positives and negatives on Biden. Positives are experience, sensibility, intelectual honesty, and more experience. Negatives are some bad politics. #1 on that list is the bankruptcy bill vote. His only defense is that he lives in Delaware which is where all the banks are located.

26. Umm...
Don't you think your positives kinda outweigh the negatives by like, uh, 99 to 1? And if he's President, he will not be beholden to Delaware's interests, if that is his defense.

BIDEN 08!

28. That reasoning is exactly why I think Joe could do well in Iowa.
He is probably second choice for a LOT of people, which should help him in the caucases.

Hillary is my number one but Joe would probably be number 2.

Barack Obama
On January 31, 2007, Biden took his first steps into the presidential campaign, but his comments about other candidates overshadowed his entrance. Biden especially drew criticism in the popular press for his evaluation of Senator Barack Obama; Biden was quoted in the New York Observer as saying: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, ... I mean, that's a storybook, man." Biden sought to clear up the controversy by apologizing to Obama on the same day and repeated his regret on The Daily Show that same evening: "Look, the other part of this thing that got me in trouble is using the word clean. I should have said fresh."Jesse Jackson telephoned Biden and reported afterward "Senator Biden...assured me that he regrets that his remarks were misinterpreted. He was serious and contrite. To me, this was a gaffe, not a statement about his philosophy or ideology."
