Forget Nader. The Real Problem? American Candidate TV Show

"SHOWTIME becomes the campaign headquarters for
American Candidate starting Summer 2004!

Unscripted and unprecedented, American Candidate is a reality series in which the viewing public will select a People's Candidate who will then have the chance to run for president of the United States. The series will be executive produced by Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy®-winning documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler ("The War Room," "American High," "Freshman Diaries"), along with Jay Roach (director of "Austin Powers," "Meet the Parents") and Tom Lassally.

The show will debut in Summer 2004 with 12 contestants from all walks of life. Over the course of the series, those 12 will face off against each other and will be narrowed down through audience participation. The final episode will be a showdown among the remaining contestants, and one person will emerge victorious – the "American Candidate.""

I could see a ton of votes getting syphoned off from this nonsense. Obviously not tens of millions, but is a million votes getting thrown out the window because of a "reality TV" show out of the question? Nope.

2. Are you betting cash on that?
Conservatives are the ones who sit around and watch TV. It's also pay TV, and Showtime at that, so the only people subscribing to the show will be people who purchase all the movie channels. Nobody just buys Showtime. That means the audience will skew far right and higher income.

3. I saw an ad for this nonsense last night.
Gosh, why don't we just trivialize the hell out of everything, so nothing is important anymore????

Does absolutely everything have to be ground up into feed for infotainment TV? I swear, TV is the antichrist.
