Hillary Clinton announced her latest union endorsement today, and sought to pump up a new poll that, unlike some others, shows her ahead in Iowa.
The 125,000-member Office and Professional Employees International Union is the latest part of Big Labor to cast its lot with Clinton.
"America's working families need a leader with Hillary Clinton's strength and experience to bring about real change," union President Michael Goodwin said in a statement issued by her campaign. "Her strong Senate record and longtime commitment to working families make her the clear choice for OPEIU and our members."
Union members can be crucial in providing people to knock on doors and call voters in the early voting states, including Iowa and New Hampshire.
The Clinton campaign trumpeted new AP-Pew polls that show her leading in Iowa with 31 percent, compared to 26 percent for Barack Obama and 19 percent for John Edwards, and in New Hampshire with 38 percent, compared to 19 percent for Obama and 15 percent for Edwards. Other polls, however, have shown Obama slightly ahead in Iowa and the race tightening in New Hampshire.
