Campaign Memo From Rove To Obama: How To Beat Hillary
You really can't make this shit up.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/dee0a6e8-a109-11dc-9f34-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1

Not that you have asked for advice, but here it is anyway: Iowa is your chance to best her. If you do not do it there, odds are you never will anywhere. You are way behind her in most national polls. The only way to change that is to beat her in Iowa so people around America take another look at you. You did a smart thing organising effectively in the early primary states. But you can take advantage of that only if you win Iowa and keep her from building an overwhelming sense of invincibility and inevitability.

The good news is you have again got “the buzz”. Polls are looking better for you in Iowa and the other early states. Your press is improving, with your performance at the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson dinner a big help. Hillary Clinton has made unforced errors. But she is still the frontrunner and there are several things you need to do quickly to win.

First, stop acting like a vitamin-deficient Adlai Stevenson. Striking a pose of being high-minded and too pure will not work. Americans want to see you scrapping and fighting for the job, not in a mean or ugly way but in a forceful and straightforward way.

Hillary may come over as calculating and shifty but she looks in control. You, on the other hand, often come over as weak and ineffectual. In some debates, you do not even look at her when disagreeing with her, making it look as if you are afraid of her. She offers you openings time and again but you do not take advantage of them. Sharpen your attacks and make them more precise.

30. Well, read the threads hereabouts and you'll get a clue.
Ask yourself--Cui Bono? Who benefits?

Let me put this very plainly, in a way that will INSULT people, though that is not the intent:

Rove wants Obama to be the candidate because he, Rove, thinks that America is a basically RACIST nation, and the American people will, in the privacy of the voting booth, pull the lever for WHITEY. That's where his mind is. He's carrying water for the GOP in giving this faux-sincere advice to Obama. He's wanting Obama to win the battle and lose the war.

Rove is inserting himself into the process. That's inappropriate. But it's typical.

And that's what he's thinking. He isn't even subtle.

31. There are those who claim the GOP is trying to steer the Dem nomination.
So anything like this would lend credence to the claim that the GOP wants to face Obama rather than Hillary which implies that Hillary is the stronger candidate. I don't believe it but some out there do and yes it can, unfortunately, affect the way a person votes.

14. Could it be "The Harold Ford Factor?"
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 07:14 PM by MADem
I can't believe the advice he gives the guy, either. He's basically telling him to be as fake as a used car salesman, to be calculating when he picks on his opponents, and that "change" -- i.e. changing the fucking crappy TONE-- is just a useful buzzword. "Create controversies?" That's just So Bush-like!!

Amazing. Simply amazing.

First, stop acting like a vitamin-deficient Adlai Stevenson.....Second, focus on the fact that many Democrats have real doubts about Hillary.....Third, when you create controversies do not pick issues where you are playing the weaker hand.....
Fourth, when you disagree with her be clear about what you believe. ...Fifth, you need to do a better job explaining what kind of change you represent.....Sixth, find a way to gently belittle her whenever she tries to use disagreements among Democrats as an excuse to complain about being picked on.....

The writer is former senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush and advised on his 2000 and 2004 presidential election campaigns.

60. Some excellent advice from Rove
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 10:35 PM by Gman
I don't think it's anything that Obama hasn't been told before as Rove's "advice" is all pretty basic stuff. And Rove is correct that if Obama can manage to win Iowa it will be a bonified race. IF not, it's going to be all formality toward nominating Hillary.

There's nothing secret or mystical about Rove's advice here. Somehow I think Obama has heard all this before. Obama would do well to follow this advice before it's too late.

And what's Rove's motivation? He's being paid.
