Two minutes Nader hate as post-Dean unifying ritual (Sociology 101)
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 12:40 AM by JackRiddler
Nader is not getting a surge among Dean people, or any other demographic. In three months he will have achieved a threat level somewhere between Harry Browne and Lenora Fulani.

The surge is in the minds of the majority of current board posters who are exercising themselves in the hysterics of Nader Hate.

His entry, which he obviously timed to follow on Dean's demise, has cleanly swept away the memory of the latter's outrageous political assassination.

The ongoing Nader Hate serves as a ritual to unite the disappointed behind the depressing reality of Kerry.

2. From what I've seen, his entry might be surprisingly big.
There's that Fox News survey ( you can find it here: http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm ) that has him at 4%!

I know the standard response to Fox News is that they lie, but think about it...if they wanted to lie, wouldn't they low-ball the percentage to make us think he's not a threat until the election?

Course someone might say that it would be a plot by them to get us in a panic and go farther left and lose the center...so I guess I can't say much really!

9. Polls projected a Dean blowout
as close as a week before Iowa.

Nader has no party apparatus this time around. His run won't amount to much. Won't stop people from gnashing and wailing like Godzilla is on the horizon, though...

3. You can say nasty things about Nader
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 12:32 AM by Gman
and not get a slap from the mods because Nader and whatever party or ticket he runs on will be the opponent of the Dem nominee and therefore, the enemy.

Ain't it great?

The mods locked several threads, including my own, which sad "bad" things about Nader in the subject line. Couldn't believe my eyes.

because a mod said it was inflammatory.....Nader's not a Democratic candidate, so why should we be nice to him?

Also he's a wonderful scapegoat to distract from all the sins of the Democrats.

Very insightful post.

7. People do not want eight years of Bush. Period.
That Nader is even considering teaming up with the Republicans again sets people off. Kerry is one of the most liberal members of the Congress, which makes the spectacle even more ridiculous.

8. please note
Nader is not teaming up with the Republicans.

Labels (liberal) matter less than substance. No rationalization can hide Kerry's vote to support mass murder and a land-grab in the Middle East.

The obsession with Nader only adds to his spectacle and inflates his bubble.

21. Well, since the Repukes are the only people who want Nader
to run, I'd say he's working for the GOP. Some Nader apologists here are conveniently forgetting many Nader supporters in 2000 have abandoned him, and are even actively working against him. Hmmm, I wonder why? Perhaps because they see him for what he is?

11. Don't mistake hate with contempt....
I have contempt for Nader. His running at this point in time brings nothing to the table and his notion that there are no differences between the dems and repubs is utterly laughable given the turn of this country under the thumb of the Bush regime.

12. You can smell the fear
Now, why is it that this Democratic group of people are so terrified of lil ole Ralph Nader?

I'll tell you why...because they know some will hear the TRUTH about the Democratic party. You know, that truth they have been trying to desperately to hide.

14. In 1996 I wrote in Nader's name. I lived in a state where he wasn't
allowed on the ballot, so I made a protest vote. After 2000 it became clear that Nader has gone over to the dark side. His little time in the limelight went straight to his head and he can't let it go. His ego is so big he could care less whether his candidacy will give the fascist neocons complete reign over our country. Anybody who doesn't think the Pukes are subsidizing his campaign are well, nuff said. Fortunately, I think all he'll do is make a complete fool of himself, and I intend to laugh long and hard at his expense. He's earned nothing but my enmity.

18. You got that right
They hate Nader because he tells the truth about the party. Just like Dean was crucified for. Now we get to vote from a position of fear for a person who is no cleaner on corporate rule than Bush is. And they wonder why we are slow to get with the program. I hate to say that my party has consistenly proven itself as totally without integrity.

15. I'm Just Going To Mention The MYTH Of Dean's "Assasination"
Dean had MONTHS of glowing unquestioning media coverage. Remember Dean supporters claiming he had Teflon?

Hell, they even allowed Dean a Do-Over on his Osama remark.

But eventually, maybe all that favorable media coverage lulled Dean into a false sense of security.

The Media finally began to wake up when Dean made his gaffe about the Bible in a sentence where he touted his own knowledge on the bible and after running a secular campaign.

The press HAD to cover Judith's absence because it was NOTICEABLE. Like it or not. Dean could have avoided that easioly with one or two highly choreographed appearances with his wife BEFORE the sharks bit.

Then there were Dean's attack ads in Iowa.

Then there was Dean's highly inappropriate concession speech. It was totally outside the norm. Furthermore, even with the sound off he appeared manic. The media had NO choice but to run with that.

AFTER the speech ran its course, within DAYS the media set about trying to resurrect Dean... giving him favorable interviews.

20. Dean made mistakes...
The Job thing? He corrected himself in the same interview.

Compare to Dubya coverage. Please.

The Scream has got to be a tipoff, man! That kind of attack requires a choice: to even notice it, to cover it instead of someone else's speech. to take the snippet. to play it 633 times. to call it mad, instead of boisterous. All a question of editing.

Ever read Fahrenheit 451?

16. Problem is--Nader's critique of the DP is CORRECT
It is one of those conundrums we are getting so used to.

Having to vote for a less than inspiring, hopelessly compromized Dem candidate while agreeing with 90 percent of what Ralph has to say.
