If Obama's supporters are going to make something out of nothing,
if they are going to try to create an environment where Obama is allowed to take swipes at his opponents but accuse his opponents of racism where none exists when his opponents return those swipes, they will be setting up the Democrats for the worst possible scenario: to have Obama win the nomination with a guarantee that he'll lose the general election. There is simply no way a Democratic candidate for president can win like that in the United States. So, keep it up, folks, and you can kiss your dreams of health care reform, a green energy policy, and an end to the Iraq war goodbye.

12. Once again, it's not a racial issue, or at least it shouldn't be.
Some people are over-sensitive, but don't pin this on race. In other words, over-sensitivity, like insensitivity, comes in all colors. There are people who are over-sensitive and people who are insensitive and though they'd loath to hear it, they sometimes come from the same racist-tainted egg. Let me re-emphasize: until we learn to treat all people equally--in good ways and bad--race will continue to divide this nation and our world. Treating people the same doesn't always feel good, but we have to get past this notion that we're going to treat this group this way, that group that way, etc. as if we can somehow reach a mystical perfect balance. It doesn't work that way, though it's convenient for some people to believe that it does. The only chance we have is to have a color blind world and to really care more for one another, regardless of race, i.e., color blind. It may be impossible, but that's the only chance we have, like it or not.

2. Oh get off it. You could say the exact same thing about Hillary and the
"Boys are piling on defense"! When has Obama ever yelled racism?

13. I totally agree with you concerning Hillary. That's exactly what I'm saying.
But if you'll reread my op you'll see that I never said that Obama has "ever yelled racism." I clearly refer to his supporters.

19. Then I agree with you, his supporters are acting like Donkeys (not the good kind)
Did they not learn anything from Team Hillary? The victim card does not win friends or votes.

3. To be fair though...
not all of the Obama supporters are like that. But, yes, the ones that do, who want to see this in the "open" would be wise to consider the "be careful of what you wish for" scenario. There's a long way to go in this race....

5. How DARE you. I'm not an Obama supporter, but I was offended by Biden's condescending comments
to Obama. Yes, there were racial undertones. Biden supporters would do well to open their eyes - and their hearts - and have some empathy when people feel they've been snubbed. Blindly defending Biden for another foot-in-the-mouth comments is insulting to those who were offended.

16. I don't blindly support anyone, but I passionately support equality.
Simply put, if Obama doesn't like to be shoved back, then he shouldn't start the shoving in the first place. You can't say that you know Obama wasn't being condescending but that Biden was. I don't go for double standards, I don't care if it's the Republican kind or the Democratic kind. There were only racial undertones if they already exist in your head. Sorry if the truth hurts.

6. It's not the biggest deal, that's for sure. But it's not "nothing".
And your dreaming if you think this little spat on DU will have even the teeniest impact on the GE if Obama is the nom.

If Biden didn't have such a long history of making similar dubious remarks, I'd agree, but the fact remains that he does.

7. What Biden said was patronizing. He tends to make these

kinds of remarks without thinking. I take that to mean being patronizing comes naturally to him.

17. You didn't miss anything - because it wasn't there
But this is a common thing around here, I see - whenever someone suggests that a white person has shown any degree of racial insensivity (which is a far cry from racism), they are accused of accusing that person of being a racist.

Funny thing - we are consistently being told by some DUers that we have no right to be offended by things that offend us (because they so patronizingly tell us that what offended us was not really offensive at all), yet the same people scream bloody murder at even the THOUGHT that THEY or someone they supprt might be even the tiniest bit insensitive about a racial issue. It's very interesting that WE have no right to be offended by comments such as that Biden made but THEY have every right to be offended that WE'RE offended.

Talk about playing the victim card!

15. I like Biden better than Obama
but you're wrong. Biden's words can be perceived as arrogant and patronizing. Personally, I don't think he has a racist bone in his body, but what matters is how African Americans, both Obama supporters and non, see this. Not how Biden partisans do.
