Kerry Blasts Bush Over Attacks on Record
Kerry Blasts Bush Over Attacks on Record

12 minutes ago

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

ATLANTA - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) accused President Bush (news - web sites) on Saturday of using surrogates to attack his military service in Vietnam and his subsequent activism against that war.

In a letter to Bush, Kerry wrote: "As you well know, Vietnam was a very difficult and painful period in our nation's history, and the struggle for our veterans continues. So, it has been hard to believe that you would choose to reopen these wounds for your personal political gain. But, that is what you have chosen to do."

<snip>

He said the president "decided once again to take the low road of American politics."

<snip>

Kerry said Bush used the same strategy to beat John McCain in the 2000 race for the Republican presidential nomination, and during the Chambliss-Cleland race. In his letter to Bush, Kerry called Chambliss' run against Cleland "one of the most despicable campaigns ever conducted."

<snip>

Cleland, a Democrat, had some criticism for Chambliss. "For Saxby Chambliss, who got out of going to Vietnam because of a trick knee, to attack John Kerry as weak on the defense of our nation is like a mackerel in the moonlight that both shines and stinks," he said.

2. Why Bush needs to use surrogates
when asked for a one-word description of Bush, equal percentages now give negative and positive responses, which marks a dramatic shift since last May when positive descriptions outnumbered negative ones by roughly two-to-one (52%-27%). The most frequently used negative word to describe Bush is "liar,"

12. Also keep this in mind.
Bush has to claim responsibily for every ad run. Negative ads will backfire. His only chance is to run ads that try to promote him. Good luck loser.

9. Yes!
I hope he borrows a page from the Clinton campaign book of '92 to not let any negative attack go unanswered for more than 12 hours and the reagan campaign book of '80 to remind people to "Watch out for the October Surprise!"

7. WOO-HOO!
The chimp is going to have a hard time with business as usual this year. I don't think Kerry is going to let him "stay above the fray" but instead call it for what it really is, letting surrogates do his dirty work.

I am all tingly after reading this post! WOO-HOO

11. He Sure Does!
Might be a good running mate for JK. I'd love to see cheyney defend his "other priorities" in a debate with Max Cleland. I'm also sure that he's itching for another shot at the rethuglicans.

Hardball works two ways. The Bush is slowly finding out his old tatics are not working. But they have no choice to go neg. Thats all they have. They are so desperate they send Pickles, who just happen to have a higher rating than Bush, to fight us. Still, all they can muster are lies and more lies.

The real truth would "Kill" them and guess whot? They know it. Deception is a good thing if one can get away with it, so they think. But this time. no getting a free ride.

John has toughened himself in this campaign to date.
He has so far prevailed with the truth and the Pubs cannot touch him unless they resort to distortion and deception.

Come, lemme pour the drinks

10. Bully for Cleland too.
Chambliss's campaign was a low point in recent US politics right up there with Bush's 88 run (Willie Horton) and Helms campaign versus Gant. Sadly in every case the US public has gleefully participated. The Dim Son's selection (and the failure of the nation to raise much of a peep) being the logical result of politic's utter debasement.

15. The dirtiest campaign I have ever seen was
Bush vs McCain.

These people will stop at nothing.

It's terrific Kerry is fighting back, & isn't going to take any crap from these miserable excuses of humanity.
