Kerry Blasts Bush for Attacks on Record

ATLANTA - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) said Saturday he wouldn't stand for Republicans attacking his patriotism, accusing the president of using henchmen to challenge his military record.

The Vietnam veteran, campaigning in Georgia, said President Bush (news - web sites) used the same strategy to beat John McCain in the 2000 race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Earlier in the day, Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., said Kerry has a "32-year history of voting to cut defense programs and cut defense systems." Chambliss said in a conference call arranged by the Bush campaign that Georgia voters would be looking at that record.

When Kerry responded later, at his side was Max Cleland, a triple-amputee Vietnam veteran who lost his Senate seat to Chambliss in 2002 after being portrayed as soft on homeland security.

"President Bush — through his surrogates, specifically through Saxby Chambliss — decided once again to take the low road of American politics," Kerry said in...

1. And Cleland there, too
Cleland is a symbol of the courage that Bush lacks and clear victim of Republican smear tactics.

We will fight back this time. Bring it on, Frat Boy!

That's what they are.

4. Good for Kerry!
Republicans aren't used to Democrats who fight back. I don't think they know what to do now.

7. My last plug for Kerry this evening...
..he is a fierce campaigner. That ain't just home-town cheerleading--he hits back and hard. And he'll go to the mat. He won some serious battles here.

6. Defiant and sarcastic...
"Cleland, a Democrat, had some criticism for Chambliss.

"For Saxby Chambliss, who got out of going to Vietnam because of a trick knee, to attack John Kerry as weak on the defense of our nation is like a mackerel in the moonlight that both shines and stinks," he said. "

These guys are not gonna take this crap anymore. heh
I bet there are a few late night strategy sessions going on in Rove's office lately. The same old dirty tricks are not only not working, but they're being exposed nicely.

9. This is really dangerous ground for Stump. He has butchered
the soldiers pay even as they were fighting in Iraq without proper protective gear. Also he cut funding to schools of G.I.s, is closing VA hospitals, is charging the sick for the hospital food, refuses to go to funerals, will not let stories out about the wounded or when the dead are returned to America. We need to go public ourselves...each and every time we have a chance to speak up.
